Magic Mike

just been to a screening of this. am not a massive fan of soderberg, his films kind of leave me cold but i thought this was brilliant. ignoring all the dancing and the men (and they ARE hot) the best part for me was channing tatum and the girl he fancies. i can't remember the last time i saw a film where the dialogue between 2 people seemed so unforced and natural. i almost think it may have been improvised. you really get the feeling they liked each other.

looking forward to this, but would find it extremely hard to ignore all the dancing and all the men

HI, could you answer one question of mine please. How many scenes are there of Adam (Alex Pettyfer) doing his thing? Like how many scenes of him stripping, and does he make out with anyone?

they show some butt a couple of times but there's not much nudity as the trailers would have you believe

alex pettyfer has 3 or 4 scenes i guess. there's a sex scene too, one which i believe has changed quite a bit from the original script.

no nudity though there is a good joke about the size of alcide from true blood's dick.

the stripping is the least interesting part of the film i thought

I saw this last night. I thought it was good but I was expecting there to be more of a story (I'd read there was). The stripping scenes were good and loved the dancing. However, I felt that the ending was rushed and it just seemed to end suddenly.

Channing Tatum was fab though

I saw this yesterday - the plot was standing still until the last half hour, and then only developed a little bit. The actual story was fairly mediocre. I didn't even notice - until the very last scene - that
Spoiler

None of this matters because it was a great joy to watch the most gorgeous man in the world (Alex Pettyfer) for two hours.

Incidentally, I have noticed that there are stories floating about on the internet suggesting that Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer didn't like each other on set. It is interesting to notice that they have both explicitly denied that they have fallen out, and that the various "sources" of such rumours never amount to anything specific and cannot be pinned down to anything concrete. Everything I have ever read about Alex before is that he is always polite and friendly to everybody.

funny you should say that, he's an actor who comes across as massively unlikeable. there are too many stories about it to ignore i think, he is hardly a-list either so i am more inclined to believe them. people tend not to make things up about people no one really knows.

the channing tatum story i immediately assumed to be true and was then quickly denied as it is bad form to slate your co-stars.

From anyone who's seen the film how much of the 1hr 50min running time was taken up with the stripping/dancing scenes and how frequent are they?

I don't know what you've been reading but there are numerous stories online regaring Pettyfer's diva behaviour on various movie sets. The guy thinks he really is a superstar, sadly he's not. The guy is a douche.

No disrespect to you personally, but I'm incredulous that folk would still ask questions like this about films, now that we have Internet porn!!

I thnk you're mistaken. I want to know how much of the movie is taken up with drama and story and how much is strictly the dancing/stripping, etc. I have no need to go to the cinema to perv!

Lots, frequently, throughout. If you cut up the film into little bits and edit the dance scenes together, they would be perhaps 10 to 20 minutes.

A bit of Googling produces various stories, most of which go back to one or two incidents which keep being re-cycled. One about arriving two hours late for a meeting - which was actually because his car broke down, and one about having arguments and falling out with Channing Tatum - which Tatum has specifically denied.

I reckon some people are just jealous because Alex is gorgeous.

there are LOADS of 'gorgeous' actors around, and on the way up. surely people wouldn't just 'make up' stories about one of them...

Aside from the titillation of hot male bodies on the screen Magic Mike is a confident straight-forward movie. It succeeds in the level of realism it aims for and provides a pleasant change from effects-driven summer offerings.

Channing Tatum is very good in the lead and shows that he can act, he just needs to broaden his range now. Matthew McConaughey is fantastic if a little scary - his whole wide-eyed performance keeps you thinking he's gonna flip at any minute.

Quite strong language for a 15, I did cringe at the thought of 15 year old girls hearing some of the stuff.
The trailer perhaps misleads audiences into thinking this is a big sunny summer romp with Rihanna playing all over it - it's not like that all really.

Magic Mike possibly won't warrant repeated viewings but certainly deserves at least one - even by hot-blooded heterosexual men

I saw this yesterday and I have to say the storyline was rubbish and rushed but the nakedness and some of those moves!! Wow, that amount of channing tatums body and dancing especially to Ginuwine 'pony' definately makes up for it :-D

Terrible film.

The script and story was actually atrocious.

Stripping parts were fun, but the rest of it...awful, awful, awful.

Saw this last night - film is awful, awful awful, not much of a story either.

However ...... the bodies, the moves and Channing Tatum's butt ( which you get a shot of in the first 2mins ) are magnificent, truly magnificent

Saw this last night, quite enjoyed it, not as light and funny as the trailer makes out, but still enjoyable. BTW, am I the only one that thinks Matthew McConaughey is looking a bit creepy and haggard? Don't get me wrong body wise he's in amazing shape but the face .. I assumed he was nearly 50's but goggled today and found out he's only 42.

terrible, terrible movie. the writers clearly counted on the fact that women wanted to see naked men and took no time out to write a good story. the story line is horrendous. i actually fell asleep towards the end and dont know how it ended exactly.

I had read that the story was good, but I didn't think there was much of a story at all. I thought the ending was abrupt too.

The stripping/dancing scenes were good thought
