Are all Virgin Mobile plans speed capped ?
I recently took out a rolling £10.00 pm sim only deal with Virgin Mobile . I wanted to see what they were like before signing up to one of their unlimited plans. As i expected the coverage is great . The CS is so so. However it does not matter what time of day I run a speed test I never hit above the (T-Mobile) limit of 1.8 meg. I know from roaming on Orange that I can reach much faster speeds. Does anyone know if all Virgins speeds are capped or is it just the sim only ones ?

AFAIK, virgin don't have any further speed capping over what T-Mobile do. I did read that you probably get slower speed when connecting to Orange.

I just did not want to jump on to bond of Virgins unlimited plans to find the speed capped at 1.8 meg I know T-Mobile cap the speed on the Full Monty plan.

Go for three, no capping at all. Plus virgin charge an arm and a leg for their unlimited plans. Tethering Is not included on virgin as far as I'm aware.

Sorry for the thread resurrection but I just got here from googling (i was searching for whether Virgin let you cap your bills!). My son has a Virgin SIM only deal and they absolutely DO allow tethering on all their SIM deals (unlike 3). He's on the £17/mth deal (1 month rolling) that gives him: 1200 mins u/l texts u/l data (TRULY U/L btw) Tethering allowed as standard When you take into account the extra cost of tethering with most 3 SIMS I think, at the moment, Virgin have the edge. |

Although I do agree with tethering being allowed, I would like to add that there is a speed cap after using 10gb, capped at 384kbps.

Probably why my son has never witnessed a speed drop lol. He doesn't use anything like that per month but does use over 1gb and doesn't have a landline hence the need for lots of mins so this was the best deal for him. Plus it's not 3 lol. We've had experience of trying to cancel an (expired) contract with them and I had to literally get VERY firm to get anywhere. Never again.

There is no capping on T-Mobile/EE. Period. Not sure if Virgin do and if they do it's entirely of Virgins doing.

I think I'd rather pay £12 for a 30-day contract with tethering included and full speed up to 10gb than £21 for a 12-month contract without tethering, but full speed all the time.

Agreed. Virgin's SIM only deals seem like great value at the moment and the fact they are 30 days rolling means a quick, pain free exit should they start to increase the prices/alter the T&Cs etc. |

The only downfall with Virgin is they don't offer sims for iPhones (nano or micro) which is silly as they could take a lot of customers due to how cheap they are

I was shocked that it wasn't a micro SIM mind you, I thought that had became the standard now. |

Galaxy S3, HTC , Nokia Lumnias, Sony Xperia U etc.. All take a Micro sim and Virgin sell them.
No reason why they cannot supply a micro for sim only. |

I was with virgin on my iPhone 4 after cutting my sim and tethered okay but only occasionally. I presume it was no issue because they don't support iPhone and therefore couldn't remove the hotspot option that others do. When I got iPhone 5 I wasn't going through that cutting and sanding down process again so switched to three which is much faster

My mother pays £13 a month including insurance and a Galaxy Ace Plus on a retention deal. A very small arm and a leg indeed. |

Fair enough. I must have missed your post. Not sure why you're taking it so personally though. I wasn't attacking you, I was merely correcting you.
