TalkTalk & New Order?

Hi all, just split this out from my old thread on BT so I can see what people think.

Basically cancelled BT and ordered TalkTalk to 'start' on the 28th July when I move, now TalkTalk when I ordered (all auto online) reckon as there is no phone line at the new property I will need an installation by a BT engineer, the first available date is the 21st August.

Now I have checked with the letting agent, the previous tenant and BT and all advise there is a phone line connected to the property (previous tenant is looking for the old phone number), but how do I go about persuading TalkTalk they can just get me connected and don't need an engineer? I really need BB for when I move in and an engineer visit means using a days holiday so annoying if not needed!

Great, BT have now told my letting agent there is a line connected, just needs activating but TalkTalk still want to send an engineer out 4 weeks after I move which in turn means a days holiday for me to be at the apartment. Arghhhhhh

Hi spendleb,

It may be the case that although the phone line is physically present it is not connected a tthe exchange (for example if this was on LLU previously and just ceased, rather than transferred to another supplier). As such these types of connections do require an engineer, but at the exchange rather than your property.

That said the engineers do often also visit the property to test everything is working post connection and also to ensure internal setup is suitable.

Regards

Mark

Thanks Mark, it's too late now, what a mess, one guy told me he could amend the engineer date to the 27th July if I cancelled the order and created a new one, I did this, was put through to the new lines team who said that was rubbish and the earliest date was AFTER the one originally given to me, apparently this is all because of the Olympic Games.......what next leaves on the telephone lines ????

Anyway now going through PlusNet.

I am so glad to be leaving TalkTalk after just a few months with them. Here is just a short list of problems I have had with them:

Charged for an engineer visit that never happened
Wrong amount of money taken from the bank, not once but 5 times since February
141 service not working (apparently it's not subscribed)
Phone line not working, now on the 7TH copper break at the exchange (funny other networks don't have this problem)
Promised refunds not happening

I moved to TalkTalk (or should it be Don'tTalk) as it would save me money.....it's actually cost me more money in just the space of a few months than it cost with my previous supplier for a full year!

If someone told me that TalkTalk is a great company I would have to send them for serious mental help

I have heared to many mixed reviews about Talk Talk. When I was on the old dial up I was with Tiscali and I can say after just over 3 years with them I was happy to move to ADSL with BT. For I had one or two fall outs with Tiscali .Talk Talk tane over Tiscali just before I moved and im glad I moved.

I wouldn't worry too much about it i had a similar issue Talktalk said a engineer would visit on the date of my service go live. All the engineer neeeded to do was simply change the wires at the exchange no engineer visited me and i wasn't charged either.
Most likely be same for you but if you do get a engineer visit and get charges just go through to retentions and say you're cancelling they'll soon drop the charge

As for the service itself apart from that annoying DLM i've never had any issues. But i've asked them to turn DLM off which they did but unfortuantly was turned on again when TT installed my tv lol but have just simply asked to turn DLM off again.

I think (maybe wrong) that Open Reach have to do the leg work, not talk talk engineers as such. When my daughter bought her place she phoned TT and was told there was no line even though there was and even had a phone still plugged in. Couple of phone calls and TT sorted it, it took ten or twelve days to get the line activated IIRC.

Rock solid connection from TT here as do other family and friends who use them but like all ISP's, they will make mistakes. Have you joined the TT forum?

I've ended up cancelling, called them and they decided if I cancelled the order they could create a new order with a better engineer date, they then put me through to new lines who said that was rubbish and gave me a worse date! I am now with Plusnet although same issue with needing an engineer, also same wait of four weeks. Speaking to my contact at BT to see if they can do anything to switch my line on earlier.

Really, I didn't know that, tbh BT when up and running were fine (although expensive!), it was the customer services that finished me off.

Plusnet runs as an independent subsidiary within the BT group. Since about 2007 I believe.

That helps as I am speaking to the BT CEO's office at the moment and it might help in getting a better switch on date.

So in the end, instead of throwing your toys out of the pram you may as well have stayed with TT.

Nope as they were terrible on the phone and I am getting an earlier installation date now through PlusNet being part of BT and being in contact with the right people, plus noticed their 'unlimited BB' was actually only 40GB?

No, 'Essentials' is capped 'Plus' is not. At the moment they are giving 1500 mins a month free to any mobile network from your landline. I pay £5 for 500 mins so the offer is a good one.

That's odd. The welcome pack I received listed "Unlimited download boost" under "Your Boosts"

No indication that it would expire either unlike the half price offer and free mobile minutes whose expiry conditions are clearly stated.

Talktalk plus is unlimited i'm on that package myself and trust me i have downloaded way more than 40gb.
Essentials is 40gb limit just like Plusnet is only 60gb limit oh and plusnet don't offer an unlimited package yet. Although it is apparantly unlimited between 12am and 8am.

Just bit the bullet and cancelled Sky completely and moving to TalkTalk Essentials.

This 40gb could get annoying though, I only signed up as the link said "unlimited downloads" and my order confirmation says "Essentials now with unlimited broadband" yet I log onto my new "myaccount" and it does say 40gb limit. I hope their online accounts just haven't been updated to reflect unlimited. Will just see what happens if I ever go over?

Coming from Sky I'm not sure TT Customer Service can be any worse. These services only seem to go seamless when you don't have to talk to anybody.

In the end I've requested a new line, as it is free under this latest deal. Not bothered about a new number.

I've gone with Plusnet now with a 60gb limit, should be enough for me. Had to pay £50 for a connection that is not needed (BT are connecting me early as a favour) so will need to claim that back but once I have a live line this weekend I just need to convince them to activate my BB, anyone know how long that takes?
