will young ehcoes wrong singles released
anyone else think he could have got more hit singles from this album jealousy went top 5 then the rest did badly.
I really loved losing myself but come on & I just want a lover are some of the weakest tracks from echoes. Happy now, hearts on fire & safe from harm are great songs. Seems like the promo for this album has been quite poor. |

Everyone has their own favourites on Echoes but it wouldn't matter if Will released all 13 tracks as singles, I doubt he would have another hit single from the album, as he just doesn't get the airplay after the first single has been released.
Will's not been a singles artist since 2004 anyway, Will gets his sales from his albums and touring etc, he's just finished another sold out tour and Echoes has sold just under half a million, which is pretty damn good in this climate I'd say. I do think though that "Silent Valentine" could have been a big seller for Will and maybe should have released it instead of "Come On." |

The trouble is, is that all the 12 songs from Echoes are brilliant enough to be put out as singles
![]() Don't get me started on airplay, because Radio1 and Capital do not play Will's songs, hence the lack of singles plays, because people wouldn't know he had a new single out Thank goodness he has such a strong following who buy his albums, and with or without massive airplay, managed to get Number 1 with his fith album after 10 years in the business ![]()

I don't think it would matter what songs Will released anymore; his fanbase seems to be mainly middle aged women who aren't going to be logging into iTunes and downloading every single he releases, and because of the perception of who his fanbase is he gets very little airplay from the likes of Radio One & Capital aswell which stops anyone else from even knowing he's released anything.
Still I'm sure his #1 Platinum album will more than make up for his lack of recent single successes for both him and his label! |

You can't have been to any of his concerts this year, as your perception of who his fanbase consists of is completely wrong, and you would know this if you were there. Will is an ALBUM seller, and not a one hit wonder. |

You make it sound like I attacked Will in my post. I didn't. I even said that with his #1 Platinum album I very much doubt he or his label care that much at all about his current single peaks a decade into his career. |

Will is more of an album artist and with all the recent singles not making the charts, sums up the following reasons: a) radio won't play them and b) People prefer singers who can't sing.
I don't think he is losing sleep over this, and yes there is a tonne of shit in the top 40, but he can still pull the crowds and sell shedloads of albums. Everyone is trying to jump on bandwagons and Will Young is not a bandwagon artist. For someone who has been going for 10 years, he's doing extremely well.....some of these sound-a-like dance acts will fade away. |

The only thing that I was annoyed/confused about was not releasing Good Things as a single. He'd held it back from the Keep On sessions because he really liked it and wanted to move more into that direction then he just uses it as an album track. If he really liked it that much it should have been a single they could have even used it for the greatest hits collection.

I think Come On was the weakest single to be honest, I think Hearts On Fire would have made a great single after Jealousy's success but I don't know whether anything would have got the AirPlay Jealousy got so it's academic now.
Happy Now would have made a bad single on my opinion, I was horrified when some journo said it was to be a single. ![]() His album has done great, other artists would kill for the sort of consistent success Will had. |

Agree with a lot of these posts. without commercial airplay he's not going to get a hit single. Radio2 stand by him though, and although their listeners aren't the main downloaders, it helps him sell the album.
I think it's just the way things go in the music industry- artists like George Michael and his ilk will rarely get a high selling single but manage to sell albums and sell out concerts with no trouble. A lot of the artists who chart high with their singles are not going to be around 10 years from now and that's a fact. Even Cheryl Cole with all her airplay and top 10 singles can't sell albums in high numbers . Seems the singles versus albums artists divide is widening I think. |

I do think music is not appreciated properly any more though. Those young people who are downloading singles only means they miss out on slower burning tracks. Successful singles are often too instant and because of that you get sick of them quickly.
Some of my favourite and most played songs (by various artists) would never have stood a chance of being a single but they are sheer masterpieces which give years of long term pleasure. An album (like Echoes) is a full body of work which creates a certain mood and therefore needs to be listened to as a whole to fully appreciate it. |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBtl2...eature=related I love it, but good as it is, I doubt it would be played on any radio stations, it's a superb track from Will's album though. |
