You reminded me of the late Les Sealey, a goalkeeper for among others Manchester United. During quiet periods of the game Les could put on quite a good display to entertain those behind the goal. He did a mean hand stand as well!

I'm convinced it's not Roger. He may well be from the same part of the country though.

So - and I mean this as a perfectly serious question. Will Roger - together with a suitably equipped indy - tender for the Radio England gig?

Because if he doesn't it makes the Facebook and T-shirt campaign look a little lame, to say the least.

So, with the best will in the world, he doesn't want to do it, a decision has been made. This is one DQF decision that won't be reversed .

Currently Page 14 of Roger's message board, letter from David Holdsworth June 10:

"I know that our Editors have still to finalise other parts of their local schedules and in some cases we may be able to agree another slot for programmes like the one presented by Roger."

This has been mentioned recently on the Facebook campaign.

Yep - I guess that is a possibility. The regional late show will still exist, as will local and regional slots at weekends.

Thought I heard Roger say he had been offered a Sunday 7-9PM slot for 2013, but is not on his website

It is going to be 60% speech radio. Speech radio with all the resources of Radio Four in one thing. Just imagine how boring yet another phone-in type thing on local radio would be.

Not quite only phone ins, but also repeated interviews from the best bits of the daytimes so may not be too bad! But not as good as Roger's current show is for music fans!

He did, it was posted by one the petition organisers on both his personal and Roger Day Evening Show Facebook page on Monday.

Thanks, as the message wasn't posted by Roger himself it hadn't appeared on my status updates and I'd missed the on-air announcement, the slot would be across all BBC South regions.

Just checked the on air announcement, Roger will be doing a 50s and 60s show, Dave Cash's show will be between 5 and 7.

He thinks the first Sunday show will be on January 6.

Pleased to hear that. Sunday evening does tend to be a graveyard spot on the radio, IMO, of course.

Sundays not to be missed...Roger, Dave and Keith. Meantime on Radio 2 Russell, Clare and David J and if I can use the IPlayer another couple of shows for another night from Radio Ulster(John Bennett)David Lowe from a few stations on BBC local radio and...Dewy Grffiths on Radio Wales...all great but usually all on at approx the same time rather than spread so we can listen more easily...

I see Roger has on his webpage that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. I knew he had prostate trouble but didn't realise it was cancer.

He says he starts radiotherapy in November. Let's wish him all the best with that.
