Mad Men - From the Beginning - Sky Atlantic HD - 19 June - No Spoilers Please

If, like me, you are one of the very extreme few that has not got into this programme and regretted it.... hurrah, it is being shown again from the beginning.

Sky Atlantic - Tuesday - 9pm

For those that have never seen this show, do everything in your power to catch it from the start (DVDs very cheap online aswell)

Simply the greatest piece of intelligent TV drama in history.

I watched the first episode when it showed on BBC years ago but didn't watch after that.

I watched the first episode again last night with the intention of watching the whole lot, but, I recall from the time I watched it on BBC there was one bit where some kids were running around the house with plastic bags on their head but this bit appeared to have been cut from last night's episode.

Anyway, it's now on series link.

My only gripe is that there don't appear to be any repeat showings as the 9pm slot on most nights requires careful Sky+ management as can often have more than 2 shows recording.

I watched it.
They all look so young!
Especially Pete - Peggy - what was she thinking?!

One thing that struck me was how many staff were shown. Have they lost all these people, or just not bothered to film them? (Don't tell me, I guess all will be revealled eventually).

I've only watched season 5, so I am really going to enjoy this.

Anyone watching? Anyone new to the series? I don't want to just talk to myself!

Interesting to see how much the characters have evolved and grown up. This must be down to great acting or great scripts or both.

Watched it with my son (21) who said - 'its a bit slow paced'. Probably it is, but it seemed to me necessary to add meat to the characters' bones.

Sally! How cute was she? Had to lol at her covered in the plastic garment bag, and all Betty was worried about was what Sally had done with the clothes.

Yes I loved that bit with the dry cleaning bag, many more similar gems like that to come.

I am new to the show. I didn't like the sound of it first time around, but soon regretted by decision because everyone and their dogs started raving about it. So, its now on series link. Have only watched episode one so far.

I am watching, but have seen it all so not cmmenting too much for fear of spoilers.

They are all so young in s1. Interesting seeing the characters that far back as when I watched originally I didn't know all the secondary characters (such as Harry or Ken) who would later develop into bigger roles.

I can answer questions in spoiler tags or PM if anyone wants but I'll refrain from posting out in the open.

For why the firm seems smaller in S5
Spoiler

It's a bit annoying they've bumped the programme to gone midnight. It's on Series Link but I had managed to watch the first 2 epsiodes "as broadcast". Oh well, I watched Hells Kitchen USA instead and will watch Mad Men at a later time.

Yeah I'm still watching.
Love Roger's speech to Pete when they found out they couldn't fire him.
And the neighbour's kid is very weird.

I found it really hard to get into Mad Men - it took me 3 or 4 attempts but once it clicks you suddenly realise how brilliant it is. Nothing much ever happens and everything is very subtle but it's like wallowing in a hot bath that you just want to go on forever.

Can I just ask whether Sky Atlantic screwed up the episode running order with last week's episode? I'm a first time viewer so I could be confused but this coming Ep6 'Babylon' reads like the one I just watched, while according to imdb Ep5 is called '5G' and I don't recognise the description. It's very possible I'm just being a bit dense!

Ok, so I know that nobody else really seems to care about this but last night's episode was advertised as 'Babylon' but turned out to be 'Red in the Face'. It means that by accident or design Sky Atlantic did not air episodes 5 & 6 in the wrong order, but rather are simply not going to broadcast the missing episode '5G' at all. It seems a shabby way for the 'Home of World Class Television' to treat one of the great programmes of the modern era. If, like me, you are trying to watch this for the first time then you will have to go to a different source if you want to see the thing in its entirety and how it was originally intended. Very frustrating!

Pleased it's not just me that is confused. Also the EPG doesn't seem to be in sync with the episodes. Hopefully the episode missed (episode 5, 5G) will soon be on Anytime +. (At the minute episodes 2, 3 and 4 are available, although I haven't checked to see if they are what they actually say!)
