some channels disappear when recording on Humax Foxsat

I bought a FOXSAT-HDR/GB/1TB a couple of months ago and it generally works fine but I have noticed the following behaviour:-

When it is recording, either as per schedule or manually, I cannot select some of the channels. Which channel(s) varies but for instance 104=ITV might not work. If I use up-down program it just skips over 104 or if I enter 104 it goes to 105 instead. Sometimes there is a whole set of channels go missing eg 104 to 110.

I am using firmware version U7.54 as updated over the air when I installed the unit.

Any ideas?

When you installed it it detected only one LNB feed. If you have two factory reset and watch for message confirming two cables.

You have quoted the loader version not the firmware.

REPASSAC, thank you for your message.

I have 2 LNBs and they were detected when I set up and they both show up now - ie I can record 2 channels and record 1 and watch another. Is there a known issue around this as I did originally set up with only one but then I did the set up from scratch again with 2?

Does a Factory Reset flush the hard disk?

Firmware/OS version is HPRSFCI 1.00.20.

No effect on your recordings. The number of cables is detected during setup. A factory reset is what you did, If you add a second cable after setting up with only one then unless you do a reset or change the connection type in one of the hidden menus the box doesn't know you now have two.

In fact there are some channels you can also view while recording two.

For instance if you have ITV1-Granada on your epg you can record BBC-HD and BBC-HD and watch (plus live pause) any of the other HD channels. If it's ITV-London then only CH4-HD and NHK WORLD HD are viewable.

Thanks Graham.

So, if I press the "i" button and see 2 level meters, I have both cables configured? Am I right?

I am not at all sure that any of this has anything to do with my problem, which is that I can't select some channels on some occasions which seem to correspond with when just one recording is taking place.

Any more ideas?

No that simply means that both tuners have a feed, this may be down to the fact that the foxsat thinks the second tuner is fed from tuner 1 out and not from a seperate cable.

If the Foxsat thinks you have only 1 cable it will stop you accessing channels it thinks you cannot view/record that aren't possible with a single cable, even though you have two.

Try this, tune to BBC-HD and press the recording button, tune to BBC1-HD and press the recording button.

Try tuning to any other channel on the epg and then press pause. If you can't view any other channel and then pause it somethings wrong.

Make sure that the two cables are on the outer connections with nothing on the middle one.

Open the setup menu, Press Red Green Yellow Blue Green Yellow Blue in succesion. You should get a secret menu. If Connection Type does not say Two Cables (same) then change the option so it does.

Thank you Graham and REPASSAC. I could see from the hidden menu that there was only 1 cable configured and changed it to 2, but that didn't fix it so I went ahead with the Factory Restore and that did the trick.

I was nervous about Factory Restore as hadn't done one before and didn't know what would vanish. All my recordings are intact and I only lost my recording schedule.

5 stars to you both!
