I'm also obviously not trying to imply the OP is lying of course, but I would certainly offer that if she thought she saw the neighbour wanking at her and flew in to a panic, she may well have convinced herself that he was wanking at her.

Obviously it's not exactly a situation where you can stop and ask for confirmation

So you're not accusing her of lying but you're accusing her of not being able to see, panicking, & 'convincing herself' of something that didn't happen: in other words altogether questioning the validity of her account.

We all know what dicks look like, what hands look like & what trousers look like & at no point in the OP's account did she say: 'I wasn't sure' or 'I couldn't really see'. Therefore we have to take her at her word.

If the OP had reported seeing her neighbour nick a bike, would you be questioning her account like this? There's something about sex offences that makes people disbelieve the victim. I think people are just not comfortable with the fact that they happen.

I think that's quite presumptuous and slightly unfair. Just because a person doesn't go out much doesn't make them "weird".

I actually edited that to the more neutral:

"As he doesn't go out much it's not like he's gone from normal to abnormal in one afternoon... "

I guess we'll never know if he's known to the police or if he's committed other offences. But then whatever he chooses to wank over in his own home is his own business as well and also doesn't make him "weird" IMO.

If he chooses to do it in his garden then it becomes other people's business, especially if he stares straight at them.

But in this situation, based on what the OP has said, it appears to be a single, solitary incident with no other incidents to speak of for the preceding decade and a half.

We have absolutely no idea & simply cannot speculate whether this guy has done this before to other people. The OP says it's the first time he's done it to her & is understandably worried that it might happen again.

Her concerns are entirely legitimate & you & other posters have managed to scare the OP off her own thread. That's really not cool.

I'll concede I could have probably worded it better, but the crux of what I was trying to say was that in situations of extreme stress, sometimes our eyes can play tricks. Look at how many people said that Jean Charles De Menezes was definitely wearing a backpack. I was trying to make the point that if the OP has involved the police in something she thought she saw, that would escalate the situation a lot more. I'm pretty sure I never actually accused her of making it up.

I didn't say you accused her of making it up: I said you questioned what 'she thought she saw' & you're doing it again now. You also accused her of 'convincing herself' that she'd seen something she hadn't, & of 'panicking'.

If she'd said she saw this guy nicking a bike you wouldn't be saying any of these things.

First of all, who knows if any of this actually happened. But even if it is just a fantasy made up by the OP, I guess it's an interesting hypothetical situation...

It's a grey area as to what you should/shouldn't be able to do in your own home.
