Bladerunner type show....

If they were to do a series set in the Star Trek Universe a story about a ship/space station neutral not part of the Star Fleet. ie independent science explorers or traders.

Colonisation of Mars...

Lots of stuff....

id like 2 types of shows done,

1 would be set in futuristic earth, space ships robots etc defending the earth from alien attacks, dealing with multi dimensional and time travel aspects, with earth on the brink on ruin.

2, would be a time travel show set in the not too distance future, may be something along the lines of Quantum leap / time cop but not a complete rip off, havin to go back and change events or help make events happen as a result of criminals who have time travel capability and are either being hired to take people out and change events for financial gain. and maybe one or 2 of the team get stuck in the past or get bounced around in time due to faulty equipment.

There was an excellent kids series called Timeslip which lasted for one series of 26 episodes back in 1970. It wasn't brought back because it had completed its story (Four seperate stories, but serialised). It was a big success - but ATV decided (or someone) not to re-do it!
I'd love to see a similar thing now. *It wasn't done as a 'kids show' either - it was treated as a proper tea-time drama!

Pretty much the plot of the new show Continuum.

The original idea for the finale of Blake's 7 series was that it would feature Daleks, and also I believe the Kaldor city audios cross over the two continuities.

I reckon with Doctor Who's current successful status, now would be a great time to reboot Blake's 7 a la BSG, and place it in the Doctor Who universe from the start.

Really? Wow, honestly didn't know that, Shoppy. It would've been cool to see Daleks exterminating arse in Blake's 7 . It's a shame that original idea for the finale didn't come to fruition.

BIB2: Yes, that would be great - I too would like to see the reboot done in a BSG sort of way in a modern thematic context. Come on, BBC. Make our wishes come true .
Who would you choose to serve as showrunner of the Blake's 7 reboot, Shoppy? Because it goes without saying that the right man would need to helm this show, right?

By the way, thanks for staying on-topic . I appreciate it.

I could be wrong; I am not creative in the way script-writers are. I would probably have said the same about Terminator, for example. It turned out T:TSCC was mining quite rich seams, including the future war, Cameron (and other robots) learning to be human, John Connor learning to be a leader, Sarah balancing the needs of the war with her need to be a mother, and so forth. Even so, it got cancelled after two seasons, and that happened arguably because it didn't have enough material. Even its fans admit it sagged a little in the middle.

Dollhouse is another example, where it turned out there was a technology journey from the initial high-tech brothel to the Epitaph One scenario, with lots of human interest along the way. It seemed to me that that too was mined out by the end of the second season.

Where-as with Firefly, I'd argue, there wasn't a whole lot of "story", and it was all about the characters. Perhaps you saying "Inception" is like Joss saying "space-western", and it's the characters you've not mentioned that will make it worth watching.

That said, I'm not keen on shows that claim to be SF but are really mostly soap opera.
True. You make some really good points here, Brangdon. Sorry for taking long to respond.

But the thing that makes the dream concept so appealing to me is that each person's dream is unique in itself, meaning each episode of this show could focus on a new person's dream. So that would allow the opportunity to have much variety in the storytelling, rather than too much of the same stuff. That's the great thing about dreams - literally anything and everything CAN happen. It makes the story very unpredicatable and that's exciting for me as a viewer.

That should have said it was the idea for the finale of Series 2 of B7 ...... the numbers are bust on my friends keyboard hahahaha.

I honestly don't know but I spose when I think about what i'd like to see in terms of slowly building story and ensemble cast, the first thing that springs to mind is Ben Richard's Outcasts ... I was gutted when that was cancelled.

Lol oooh okay!

Yeah, I was gutted when Outcasts got cancelled too. If Ben Richards was to be showrunner of the Blake's 7 reboot, I think he'd need to recruit a better group of writers than he did on Outcasts. Outcasts did have a few problems on the writing side.

For me, I wouldn't mind seeing Russell T Davies as showrunner of the reboot. He understands the Doctor Who universe well, so he'd have no problem integrating Blake's 7 into that universe I think.

It's been good reading over this old thread after all this time. I've been intrigued by many of the suggestions from posters. Thanks for the replies. I'd like to hear more.

So what other sci-fi shows would people like to see? We've pretty touched on all the popular sci-fi subgenres in this thread so far.
