Amy Winehouse - One Year On.

Amy Winehouse died one year ago today. I was very sad when she died and she was "on the mend" but she lapsed (again) and it was just beyond the point of no return.

I am so pleased she didn't die from drugs though. Everyone said this at the time (people on facebook/twitter in particular) but that's not the case at all.

RIP Amy.

I've been thinking about this lately. One year has passed so quickly.

Must be awful for her family.

R.I.P Amy

She will be on TV tonight:

Best way to remember her is to play her music and enjoy it.

The greatest musical talent in recent times. She died too soon. The most comforting thing is that her music is so timeless. So she will never age.

Can't believe it's been a year already. I can still remember finding out about her death on the tram home. She truly was a phenomenal talent; Back to Black is a masterpiece of an album.

She's one of the few famous people who I actually shed a tear for when she died. Back to Black is stunning. I also love that Dinah Washington song she did on Jools Holland--sublime.

A year already I remember being with family when someone dropped the bombshell. Nobody could believe it - people always worried about it happening but when it came, it shocked everybody.

It's one of those celebrity deaths that will always sadly stick in my mind, of where were you when it happened: same with Aaliyah, Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, even Selena back 17 years ago.

Still missing her, still doing a double take when I hear her... and then remember she's gone. Still too sad.

One of my all-time favourites -

Don't go to Strangers with Paul Weller on Jools. Jools' face says it all.

I'm listening to her 'Frank' album now. It's brilliant and I really love her voice on this. I think she was more versatile than when even knew. A very credible artist. I hate the whole drugs/drink thing that is attached so heavily to her name. Understandably that is a given but it became very over-bearing, in life and in death too.

I'm looking forward to the BBC Four special tonight. It's the first time it's ever been broadcast (apparently).

I mean this in the nicest way possible but you're the only person mentioning 'that' on here. If you keep mentioning it, people will start to comment on it and this lovely thread remembering what a gift she was will descend into arguments about how/why she died.

Oh without a doubt. Take "F*ck me pumps" for example from Frank:

That's so far away from her Back to Black style but she still pulls it off. And her duet with Tony Bennett:

This thread is well-intentioned of course, but it should be in the Music section. She was a phenomenal singer and songwriter, and whatever demons she had she acknowledged. Whatever Any Winehouse was, she wasn`t part of `showbiz` ...

I agree actually. I think she was incredibly shy and didn't crave the fame or the attention that she received and subsequently struggled to cope with a lot of that attention. I doubt she would have thought of herself as "showbiz" in the slightest.

She was a true musical talent and the world is a poorer place without her in it. Cannot believe how quickly a year goes by.

How fast that year has went in is shocking!

Amy clearly had passion for music, it's just a shame that her demons overtook her

She will always be recognized for her outstanding contribution to music <3

I echo all the comments here.

Shame she only left two albums as a legacy, but what two great albums they were

Still well and truly missed.

One of those people you always hoped would come out the other side and get back to her best.

Love her albums, love her live performances. Can't believe it's been a whole year, I still listen to her almost every day as well, Tears Dry on Their Own and You Know I'm No Good will never get old for me.

Don't mean to sound to harsh or nasty, but why do people still upset that shes died, because at end of day it was her own stupidity that she died.

If she hadn't abused her body then she'd still be with us and making cracking records

I remember coming on here between dinner and mass on Saturday evening, seeing the red banner and then the topic on the Showbiz Forum I think and being utterly gobsmacked
