It's amazing how gullible they think we are, isn't it? I don't generally vote, but if I did, it would kind of be like betting, a bit of fun. I'm well aware that the winner was probably decided well before the show aired, and the show itself is just a money-making exercise. If I was ever to be a contestant on that sort of show (highly unlikely), I'd go in with the attitude that my aim was to get on the live shows and get some TV exposure. Winning would be nice, but it's far from being the only prize (as some X-Factor winners will testify).

Actually, I'd like to see no judges at all and instead, a return to seeing talented people come on, do their stuff and then go. It used to be called Entertainment. You didn't have to pay for it twice ie by voting as well as paying the licence fee.
Not that I disagree, but blimey we'd have to go back a bit. It was the Beeb who started the trend of phone-voting when it revived Opportunity Knocks back in the 80s. Prior to that, we would send in a postal vote - can't remember if postage was free or whether we had to pay for it; at today's rates that would make it more expensive than phoning and who wants to wait a week for results?

As to the topic of the thread, I would like to go back to the days where we cherished our eccentrics rather than ridicule them.

I'm not. Garden gnome dug up from the 18th century.

Would love to know your opinion!

I'm pretty sure he suffers badly with arthritis. He's definitely had hip surgery for it and his hands look arthritic. At his age it could be affecting his posture too. As a young man he was considered good looking, especially compared to Tim.

I think it's cruel to comment unkindly about his physical appearance.

I totally agree - he can't help that. However, he can help the things he says and I thought his outburst at Nathan (and I'm NOT a Nathan fan!!) was thoroughly unprofessional and out of order on a live show. Sometimes Andrew needs to think before he speaks, methinks.

Crikey, I don't remember Andrew ever being considered good-looking when he was younger His brother was the good-looking one. ALW has always been self deprecating about his looks as well - remember when he commented in this show on the number 'I can't get no satisfaction' by saying 'I can't get no girl reaction - the story of my life!'.

I think he's a very endearing man and maybe he promises things he can't deliver because he wants everyone to have a happy ending. But sometimes his brain is definitely not connected to his mouth.

I suspect he's been told that throughout his life!

He is thought of as a very kind and generous man by those who know him (apparently) and I can imagine he might do a lot of apologising and making things up to people!

I am not commentin on his appearance but on his gestures .He has on occasion pointed with his middle or index finger , which in my book is downright rude .He reigns it in mostly by tucking his fingers into his fists and pointing with them. But he obviousely forgot the other night and pointed with a index finger right at Nathan .
I dont think it has anything to do with arthritis , its more a lack of awareness of the socially accepted gestures IMO

I disagree about his hands, but that's neither here nor there. I'm sure he does know it's rude to point, but couldn't help himself at that moment. I've already said plenty about Nathan's elimination, so I just want to add that I'm not getting in to another discussion about it. As far as I'm concerned he's out of the competition and I don't have a problem with that. Now I'm looking forward to tonight's final and don't mind who wins.

Yes, best to treat it as airtime rather than to count on things working out well, I think.

On American Idol the live shows finalists all hope to get to the final 10 because it's only the final 10 that does the tour. So it does make sense to want to win, but to really appreciate the exposure you get as much as anything else.

I have no issue with the finalists now and would vote for Ben if I could ,but I think any of them will be a good Jesus .

Sorry I didn't meant to imply you did - I just didn't want to start that discussion off again on this thread!

Thanks for the heads up about my PMs - it's probably been like that since the end of Strictly last year!

I couldn't help thinking that ALW didn't look very well tonight and I just wanted to hug him. Despite all the faux pas he makes I really do love the man, he's given people so much pleasure and...he practically apologised to Nathan tonight.

Did he say he'd like to work with Nathan or is that just backtracking for the sake of it? (didn't see it)

Yes, he did. It was a bit of an olive branch.

More likely that he has heard about the complaints about his boorish OTT rant.

Probably had been told that Nathan has well over twice as many twitter followers as the superstar tweet site does.

I don't think he'll work with Nathan. It looked like PR to me.

He didn't say what Nathan's job was to be though - Brian's chauffeur or roadie?

Just hear Nathan singing ' She's Out Of My Life' on Youtube. It's so good that Brian might be standing in for ALW in future TV programmes.

Dawn has said that she was well qualified to be a judge as she once stood next to a bible, in Waterstone's.

Brian has been spotted signing autographs near the Olympic site and has hinted that he'll be lighting the flame tomorrow with the other person who's been given the job. As Brian can run so fast though, blink and you'll miss him.

I just found this clip of ALW singing:

And a treat of some stand up from Andrew at the end, lol.
