I have a stand, thanks. Don't want to have to buy another one!

The one thing that's boiling my piss with the Nexus 7 is that when i do a google voice search saying "what's the weather like" it always returns the result in fahrenheit.

All my settings are English (uk). It knows my location via GPS and manual input. And yet it continues to tell me the temperature in American.

Stupid Google.

Google Now settings > Google Now > Weather > Weather Units > (change to Celsius).

Mine has been in °C from the start, but you never know what tiny little thing made yours think that °F would be the better choice!

An alternative is SlideIT, which is in the play store and works just fine on the Nexus 7.

Thanks for this - I didn't know how to change it either. This thread has been brilliant - making much more of my new tablet than I would have done.

Still not brave enough to do the flash thing though - think I will wait for Iplayer and Skygo to have official versions for JB.

Have any recent purchasers (or people who've exchanged faulty units recently) had the screen separation problem?

I see alot of online retailers call it brown, I wouldn't call it brown.

A little disappointed John Lewis now have it in, last week they couldn't give me a date of when they were expecting it, so I bought from Tesco instead, but would have liked the 2 year warranty. Will get me next one from them!

"Torvalds sums up: “It's solid. If you simply don't like tablets (or android), I doubt the Nexus 7 will really change your mind, but if you were borderline, the new price-point (for a quality device - there's been cheap tablets before, but they've really been pretty bad) and the incremental improvements might be enough to push people over the line.”"

Whilst a bit loath to link to ZDNET which is often total garbage, they had comments from Linus.

He is right about plain text emails. For me, if they can't be read in plain text it gets deleted. HTML in emails is also used to track you.

I'm really not sure to get this now.

Or wait until I have enough money (probably Christmas) saved up to buy a Transformer TF300.

Update: Think I'll wait.

I've got it again with the nexus 7 I received yesterday, it's not as bad as last time but there's still a noticable 'creak' when I press the middle left hand edge of the screen (which I'm pretty certain will only get worse with time).

Will probably be taking it back to CPW on Saturday to get it exchanged...

That's disappointing but I suppose the replacement was also from the initial production batch. Hope you get a solution one way or another, if only a refund.

Let's also hope that Asus resolve the problem at source before long.

I've not paid much attention to the issue yet, but a cursory play shows nothing obvious. Will have a proper look at some photos/videos of the problem and see later.

Overall, very pleased!! Managed to get both iplayer and BBC olympics app working with flash without much difficulty, and seem to be able to get 4od and demand5 running through Firefox.

Very zippy, very cool. In truth slightly disappointed with Google Now, yes it can calculate how far away from home I am, but hopefully future versions will be a lot cleverer. Otherwise all good, just need to find somethings to spend my Play Store credit on....

I don't use Google Now. Google's already tracking more stuff than I want, probably - I'm just using Google search - and I don't need it keeping track of everything I do, keeping it all on a server and mining the crap out of it for profit and god knows what other reasons.

I might turn it on to change the setting if I can turn it off again straight afterwards, but I don't know if I can do that (will have to research) and .. only if it's going to keep my settings afterwards - which it conceivably won't.

Google search settings > Voice > Language > English (UK) ... should be enough. Apparently it's not.

Stupid Google!

UPDATE:
Apparently you can turn it off anytime you want and edit what it tracks. Full details here: About Google Now

UPDATE 2:

Turned Google Now on - saw temp was already in celcius - then turned it off. Result: temperatures are now relayed in Celcius for a simple query like "What's the weather like?" Hurrah.

My guess is that people's Google accounts already had some location data in them, whereas mine didn't. Populating it with one instance, by turning Now on was enough to fix it.

UPDATE 3:

Just checked my location history in my Google account and it has no record of my location, in keeping with having location history turned off. Hmmm. Obviously what I did fixed the issue, but it's clear that Google's not telling me all the information it has on me! It says there's no location history, but it now knows I want temperature in the UK norm.

Naughty Google?

Anyway, thanks for the help, pi r squared!

Wrong information in JL's spec sheet:

>Multitouch tablet? No.

Um ... yes. I count at least 10 points.

>Bluetooth 2.1

Um ... try 4.0.

No mention of compass, GPS...

I got the tablet from Tesco the night. So far it looks good and it put all my apps from my HTC Desire S on it. It also did a small systems update.
I will pay about with it fully tomorrow evening.

Mine is literally about 0.2mm (I measured it and I struggled as it was so small). No creaking unless considerable force is applied, and not the sort that could be done accidentally.

I bought a case today that seems to put on enough pressure around the sides so that the screen isn't separate whilst it's on. Seeing as I have no other issues whatsoever with it, I might just stick with it rather than risk receiving a replacement that has the same problem but worse, or even another issue completely, such as a dead touch screen, or light bleeding etc.

It seems my 6 year old laptop creaks.
So it has taken me 6 years to realise I can get it to creak by manually bending it.

Obviously lashings of industrial glue will cure it.
