I'd be interested to hear if that is indeed the case too.

Apparently though, you only have until 24th August to get it for free. After that, I assume you'll have to pay for it.

From what I've seen so far you get some kind of voucher code or at least that's what I'm waiting for according to the online form

I assume you get a code to redeem on the App Store.

Yes, but I assume it's the code that has the expiry date. Use it or lose it. But the question still remains, can you download the OS update but delay installing it?

Incidentally, some folk have been having trouble with their codes:

If you installed it from a voucher and dont like it, can you not revert?

I **thought** the voucher code just let you buy from the OSX AppStore, so you could revert with your original install media.

But from what I've read, performance wise it's superior to Lion

I don't see why not, you could do it with the Lion installer.

Well it downloads the installer and auto runs but you can exit it and install it whenever from your Apps folder. I'm not sure how you redeem the voucher/code for the free upgrade though.

My iMac seems to run a lot faster now. Also if you have t he install fine downloaded from the App Store you can install it whenever you want, I believe. I copied it on to a memory stick and installed it on a MacBook Air straight away

I decided to go for a clean install, as I wanted to remove a load of crap off my system anyway. Shame you need a DL DVD to burn the image now, as it's just slightly too big for a standard DVD.

Installed it on my late-2010 MacBook Air last night and it seems quicker now BUT the fan, which I normally don't hear, is going crazy.

I have installed it but would also want to do a clean install and just keep documents, email, iPhoto, iTunes stuff, any idea how I can do this?

It's an old iMac and I have never done a reinstall since tiger, it currently takes 50 seconds to boot to the desktop.

There's a bootable disk image inside the installer application that you can write to a USB stick or a DVD to do a clean install.

It's exactly the same procedure as doing it for Lion so follow a guide like this one: http://www.tuaw.com/2011/08/11/build...ive-for-cheap/

Just back up anything you want to keep and restore afterwards.

I have credit in my iTunes account but the Mac App Store won't let me buy Mountain Lion with this credit and insists I use my other payment method to pay for Mountain Lion. Has anyone else had this issue? Seems ridiculous that I have paid Apple enough to buy the new OS but it is looking for another £13.99 to let me buy it.

Alternatively If you have a fast internet connection and haven't backed up the bootable installer, you could just backup all your data then reboot with Cmd-R. From there you can erase or repartition your HDD if you want and download and do a fresh install from scratch. Once that's done you can redownload your iLife apps etc from the app store. This is a long winded method of doing it though. Much quicker with a bootable flash drive.

I downloaded ML yesterday (upgraded my 2007 mac from snow leopard - bypassed lion) and so far it is fab. my old mac seems to be running a lot faster, seems a lot slicker and brighter. Must say I love the new mail set up and like the launchpad. will spend the next few days exploring - but so far so good.

A good while back I recall someone saying they used some credit or something to buy an iTunes gift card to then buy OSX.

I like the iClouds tab feature with iOS 6 Beta.

Makes life so much easier browsing a website on my iPhone, getting home and picking up where I left off!

And I agree-the performance over Lion is amazing already.

I have a macbook pro with Lion and Windows 7 on bootcamp partition. I just want to confirm weather I can upgrade Lion to Mountain Lion without affecting bootcamp windows7?

So all Mountain Lion'ed up. Two things strike me straight away, Gatekeeper wouldn't let me run Eclipse and they've taken time remaining from next to the battery
