I don't speak a lick of French which is a shame because my step-dad is French

I do however speak very little Spanish....but I do mean VERY LITTLE
BW - Sleeps has been trying to convince us all that he's intelligent by speaking French.
It's hilarious.

Don't worry if it doesn't make any sense to you, nothing Sleeps ever says makes any sense to anyone, whether it's in French, English or whatever.
He has his own language.

I think it's awful

First of all I have never liked her. I think shes very strange and very hard to watch in an interview.

But for her to cheat on Rob, just does me in.

Plus I believe the person she cheated with is married....right?

And he has kids as well.....

I'm not here to say that I'm perfect and shes not, but come on.....that is an awful thing to do.

You are in the public eye and you are aware of this....grow up.

BTW that's to her and the guy she cheated with. They both should be ashamed

Just my opinion

I must say when I try and read his post, I do think to myself....his accent is so thick I can hear it from here

It's all good. Most of the time I do get what he is saying ....believe it or not

But now he's speaking French.....all is lost on me

well I know a little French.....but not much....worse than my Spanish

Snow White she ain't, that's for sure.

The thing is, Rupert Sanders and Chris Hemsworth were both on the set of that film.

I'd have chosen Thor every day of the week, especially Thursdays.

Apparently all the Twilight fans are sticking up for her.

I blame randy Rupert more though cos he's married and older but they're both sleazeballs, at it in a carpark.

Well you are right about that one, sleazeballs they are.

I will never understand why fans are sticking up for her. I guess it's because it's a bunch of teenage girls who don't understand the embarrassment it has brought to his wife. Not to mention her whole life as been turned upside down and the whole world gets to watch it happen.

Now the wife and the children are the ones to suffer the most, and they are the ones who are innocent in this whole mess.

I just hope they are happy with the mess they have made.

Yes Thor is quite the looker

Good morning everyone and Buongiorno Amore Mio Monseiur Sleeps

I do have a bit of a serious question this morning: Can anyone who is posting or reading on here please direct to where I can find some helpful information on the Internet about what you can do when you are served with a Section 21 Notice to Quit from your landlord. It is not for me, it is for my neighbour downstairs who came up in floods of tears last night asking for help. My own job is law-related but I can't help it is not my area. I appreciate that DS does have an Advice Forum and people do respond but you get so much conflicting advice you end up I'm not asking for free legal advice just for someone to point me in the direction of some helpful and correct information.

Jennifer my neighour is 71 years old and has lived in the flat for over 30 years. What ********* the landlords are, needless to say they own acres of property in the West End

Thanks guys.

Hi Ven

This is not good news for your neighbour.
It seems a landlord has the right to regain possession of his property at the end of an Assured Shorthold Tenancy.
He isn't even required to give any reason to the tenant.
He must follow the correct legal procedure which is serving the section 21 notice in writing.
The notice starts when the tenant receives it, not when it was sent.
Usually what happens is that the landlord is required to give a minimum of 2 months notice for the tenant to quit the property.
If the tenant doesn't leave by the expiry date on the notice, the landlord can apply to the court for a possession order.
If he has been found to have followed the correct legal procedure, the court will have no choice but to grant the possession order.
If the tenant then ignores a court notice to leave, the landlord can request the county court bailiffs evict the tenant.

I'm afraid it looks like your neighbour will have no choice but to move out, regardless of the fact she's been a tenant for 30 years.
It's despicable to do this to her but the landlord has the right to do it.

There's a section on the website moneysavingexpert in the forums all about landlords, renting and the legalities.
If you ever want to ask a specific question, it's easy to sign up and there are lots of helpful people with experience who will try to answer your question.

Apart from consulting a property lawyer or CAB perhaps your neighbour might be able to get some assistance from the various agencies that specifically help older people.
She'd probably be better off concentrating her efforts on finding new accommodation rather than trying to fight to stay where she is because it looks like there's nothing much she can do.
It's horrendous, I feel so sorry for her.

If she was a relative or friend of mine, I'd be tempted to go to her MP and say her heartless landlord was chucking her out on the street and what's he/she going to do about it.
I'd tell the local paper as well and kick up a right fuss about it to shame the landlord.
But then I live in a small place and I don't know if people do that sort of thing in London or if it would make any difference.
I'm sorry I can't be of more help.

Good morning everyone

Thank you Sleeps, thank for Lor and thank you very much indeed the residential conveyancing solicitor who sent me a very helpful PM: you know who you are

I could write pages and pages here, but I won't, it's so sad. If they want her out, they can get her out. I am right behind her and she will not be going peacefully, trust me! Normally 30 years gives you a protected tenancy, however Jennifer's late husband was originally the tenant of the flat in question, he had a high-ranking job in the world of theatre and the flat came with the job. Jennifer met and married him 30 years ago and moved into the property. When her husband sadly died 12 years ago the landlord presented her with a document which she was happy to sign as at the time she was worried she might have been asked to leave then. She tells me she has always paid the rent on time, which has been acknowledged but she has never ever signed another lease/document. And herein lies the problem, it would seem the document she signed was as Assured Shorthold Tenancy Agreement drawn up under the revised Housing Act of 1988 thereby she is deemed a tenant under this Act and the procedure carefully detailed by Lor can swing into place There are six flats in our block, three tenants have received the Notice, two of the other flats are more or less inhabited by a transient population of tenants (although they are all very nice) under some kind of company let agreement so there is no problem removing them. Which leaves me. I have been a tenant since before 1988 and have not signed any form of least under the new Act. No doubt they want the whole building back for whatever plans they have and they are probably thinking of ways to evict me. No worries, at the end of the day I will go but oh boy oh boy is it gonna cost 'em. right is on my side. Keep you posted on that one, but what is they say, ah yes. "The People United Will Never Be Defeated"

But moving along .. we are finally here . .. Olympics start today at up and down this wonderful land of ours church bells will chime in unison 08.12 with Big Ben taking the lead, the great bell will chime 40 times in three minutes. For the time being let's forget bankers, let's forget landlords, let's forget tossers in general and celebrate the fact we here to to enjoy this happy day and all the days that follow

Hi Lor, in my main post I forgot to thank you for especially for the above excellent advice, when I searched the Internet all it came up with was advice to landlords about how to get your tenant out ...

Speak soon.

Hi all.

What a horrible situation your friend finds herself in Ven. I could not be that hard hearted to anyone in the pursuit of what is probably only a few quid to them.

Although they get some flack from the likes of me on a regular basis, I agree with Lor who said it's a good idea to try and get your local MP involved. After all, it is supposed to be what they do for a living. The papers too are a good bet. Radio even - and I know of one particular station the has free legal advice from 9pm on a Tuesday.

For all the thousands of new laws the last lot bought in, it's a shame they didn't bring in something to transfer tenancy right to spouses in such circumstances as tenancies of around 30 years tend to suggest elderly people are involved. Perhaps something your MP should de pushing too on behalf of his party.

Also are there no human rights that come into play , or are they just for criminals like many suspect?

I'm glad you've been PMed by a Solicitor as there is always someone on here who knows what to do and willing to give some help.

I think it's disgusting to allow this type of thing to happen but hey money is involved and that surely comes first over a poor 70 year old lady.

I hope you can get enough spanners and throw them firmly in the works of all this and come back on here to give us news of a successful outcome.

I'll come over and we'll stage a sit in, Ven.

It sounds to me like you are a spanner in the works for the landlord and they're not going to be able to get you out if you refuse to go.
They will of course try to make you feel uneasy about living in an empty block when they get rid of all the other tenants.
Then they might start renovation works on the vacant flats if their purpose is to revamp them to let them out for more rent or they might be intending to sell the block.
If that is the case, they'll be hoping all the noise and disturbance will make you want to leave.
However, if you can put up with such tactics and sit your ground, it will be interesting to see if they turn to sweeteners to get you out.
It's a terrible thing to happen because I can tell you're happy where you are and you feel bad for Jennifer who will have to go through the upheaval of moving after all these happy years in the home she shared with her husband.
She obviously feels a connection to him there which she will lose.
It's a bloody disgrace. Money grabbing beeping beeps.

I saw the Red Arrows myself about a week after that accident where a plane came down in to a crowd in Germany. I thought they would have toned it down in the circumstances and played a really safe game but nothing could be further from the truth.

I've never seen anything like it and I'm sure they ramped it up to the hilt instead.

I really couldn't look, it was that precise and you couldn't hardly get a fag paper between some of the planes.

Truly amazing skill.
