most boring books I have ever read in truth, but I will not be dictated to by someone who has take an hysterical approach to critically appraising a work of pure fiction. It works for some and not others but people should not be looked down upon fo enjoying something that someone else feels is tasteful or enjoyble, that goes for sex, relationships and complete works of fiction.

I actually found it quite.boring.
she was the one who worked in the DIY store

I just want to say, I am in no way a troll, and I just want to point out my post about being sexually assaulted, my doctor has had to refer me for trauma therapy because of this, I have suffered for the last 19 years from post traumatic stress disorder and the thing that triggered my memories was this book, people have been sending me emails telling me things, sending me sentences and even paragraphs from this book, I feel as if I have read the whole book, I was even sent the synopsis, I would like people to believe me so they can understand how serious sexual assaults really are, I would not wish this pain and suffering on anyone, it has ruined my life. But as long as you think I am attacking this book you will never understand what I am talking about, I am in no way against people reading what they want, each to their own, whatever interests you, but this book in some ways has done me a favour and made me go for the help I needed.

You don't have to justify yourself, anyone with intelligence understood what you meant & that you weren't trolling.

You're perfectly entitled to your own reaction to the book.

I just felt the need to elaborate that's all, and that was the only way I knew how, I didn't think I was trolling, but I wasn't sure whether people were taking my posts seriously, they may have thought I had made them problems up to rubbish the book, and that wasn't my intention. As I said it has done me a favour and I am pleased I am going to get the help I deserve.

Ana was subconsciously attracted to Christian's wealth, as was the author and lets be honest, if the book was about a plumber it wouldn't have sold so many copies. Money absolves his behaviour. Just because she buys herself a cheap ankle bracelet on honeymoon doesn't mean she is free. Money is the unseen shackle in this story, as potent as anything in the playroom.,

That's not how I saw it at all. I agree with you that the money aspect helped the book's popularity - I for one am more entertained reading about a billionaire's lifestyle than a plumber's lol - but I didn't see it as a potent force in their relationship, in fact quite the opposite on Ana's part. What about in the early stages when he buys her the MacBook and wants to replace her clapped out old car but she doesn't want to take gifts from him?

I understand where you're coming from, perhaps it's me, as I found her character to be quite weak at times. He gives her a present, she moans, he justifies it, she capitulates, time and again.

Possibly not but I was in a heady relationship once and got engaged after knowing him for only six weeks; but I didn't ever lose sight of who I am and what I believed in. To me Ana does and to me that lessens her in my eyes.

Oh and in case your wondering, we celebrate our silver wedding this year. Then again perhaps because I got swept off my feet as a 21 year old, I don't need to experience it through this or any other book, so 50 shades doesn't work so well for me.

That's really lovely! Big congrats to you both on your silver wedding, quite an achievement nowadays.

Me and a friend were discussing this the other day in the queue at the post office, we both said what a load of rubbish it was and then she said ' I'm not into all that M & S don't know what the bloke in front must have thought.

It just proves that you don't need to be a great writer to have a best-seller. There isn't even that much of a story to it - the main plot seems to revolve around a back-story. It's selling because of the sex, which is also described with constant repetition.

It's held enough of my interest to guarantee that I'll buy the third book though.
I keep reading the first book and fall asleep after a few pages, its badly written and quite a yawn (literally). I will get to the end but not fussed about it, the book just drags on and on. Glad I didnt buy the Trilogy

Give me Jackie Collins and Jilly Cooper anyday lol

There's a copy on the cupboard next to my desk at work that somebody's brought in and invited us to borrow. The tin of London 2012 biscuits next to it is generating more interest.

At least we've got taste.
