looking for a new printer/scanner
EVENING ALL, as posted in my other posting, my HP DESKJET 3050 J610 SERIES printer has problems due to me not using the genuine HP cartridges. i used some already filled from CARTRIDGE-WORLD. .. SO i am looking for a new printer! i am not bothered about photographs being copied or printed. just want a printer and a scanner to print documents etc..
and i would like one that is not chipped, so i can use any full ink cartridge, , and of course not to expensive. to buy or run. mainly used for work papers.. can anyone suggest a printer for me to buy??? thanks... |

A few people i know have got Kodaks and seems happy with them. they are cheap to buy ink for and the quality is ok. Also they seem to be more reliable than they used to be.
If my Canon printer goes belly up i may think about one, the problem is they only make all in ones and i don't really require a All in one. |

I'm tempted to ask why not just buy some proper HP cartridges for your existing printer? Even at the silly prices they charge for ink it's still got to be (marginally
) cheaper than a whole new printer.

Now they got a colour laser so things are a bit different, A printer scanner may be a bit different, but you can still get them cheap enough that it works out cheaper than buying ink all the time. Strange that non-Hp cartridges cause a problem, my sister-in-law got a very old HP printer and that have been using copies for years and still going, which for Hp is a shock as their printers always seems to be unreliable. I buy third party clones for my canon and have done for the last 3 years, it is a good printer, but that is all it is a printer, i don't really like All in ones as they normally lack in quality in one part or the other. |

if you want to use branded ink then go for kodak. their official ink is quite reasonable.
otherwise the compatibles for epsons are readily available and don't require any electronic fettling. |

the little mfp from brother are pretty good, and reasonable inks, kodak are ok, same with epson, canon around the £60 you should be able to get something reasonable for what you want.
printerbase is really good a lot of choice and you can change the filters for the search. very fast delivery and good prices http://www.printerbase.co.uk/mfpprin...=Apply+Filters |

I have 2 origination HP cartridges the black one is empty, but color is about half full. I put these back in. and nothing happened at all. what happens now is when scanner button is pressed it auto said scan failed. and it will not even begin to start the alignment process. nor tell me the black is low or empty..

get some alcohol, wipe the chip sensors of the cartridges, and in the machine leave them to dry then try again. you may have got some ink on things.. turn on and off again, anyway you can restore factory defaults, or uninstall and re install. maybe something going wrong in that department

I've been an Epson fan for some years, the clone cartridges work fine and are as cheap as chips.
Epson SX235W is £40 in Argos. £40, wireless, silly cheap for what you get. |

Do fairly cheap laser printer/scanners exist? Like you can get a decent mono laser printer for £100 now.

Just had a look on Ebuyer and yes you can, now I don't know about quality but the colour ones used to be double or more compared to Mono ... interest for when this one goes pear shaped.

Have Epson improved their quality? i used to have a Epson about 12 years ago, it was a great little printer, lasted for 4 years until the head went, not worth replacing the head once that happens.
I was going to buy another Epson, but the build quality was awful and my brother had gone through two of them in less than 12 months, which is why I went for a Lexmark Z42, which still works by the way if I put ink in it. Sadly the Z42 was expensive to run which is why I went with Canon. the epson my brother got now is about 3 years old, so he did get one that worked, the problem is Epson have not updated the drivers, so the Cd printing part will not work on windows 7 64 bit. Canon updated their drivers even for a 6 year old printer. i think a lot of printers are built naff these days, even the latest canons seems cheap and tacky, being produced from thin plastic that bends when you touch it. |

Epson is fine, I only print the occasional letter/spread sheet and big A4 photo's which have great quality.
I've an old Canon laser printer which may work, not plugged it in for years, good machine a decade ago. Printers are so cheap these days, I remember paying well over £150 for a B/W inkjet and my first flat bed scanner, a Xerox cost me over £600 around twenty years ago. |
