* I entered my details on the TalkTalkTV page, you can't see the packages on offer unless you do this. * It said my line was too slow to support it and suggested I see if I could get fibre. * I was then directed to the fibre checker where I had to enter my details again. * It said I could get fibre and invited me to sign up. However, there was no option to see the TV packages on offer which might tempt people to sign up as I had been navigated away to the broadband page! |

TV Boost structures and prices are subject to change. TV Boost availability is subject to minimum line speed. Channels on all purchased TV Boosts are only available via the TalkTalk Player and you will not have the ability to record any programming in the TalkTalk Player. Programmes and channels are subject to change and may differ at launch.
Will there be any way to record the non-Freeview channels? |

@gother - thanks.
With TalkTalk - and BT shortly - to be offering free/subsidised boxes, I wonder what the market for Humax's £300 YouView box will be like. Yes, there will be some smaller ISPs who so not offer a TV service (principally PlusNet, O2, Orange, BE, Tesco, Eclipse) but these only account for 14% of the market and tend to be focused on the value end of the market so not fitting the profile of someone who will spend £300 on a box. There may be some VM and Sky customers who are attracted to the idea of a box with a more open platform enabling them to subscribe to access services such as Netflix, LoveFilm on their televisions if not using a console. However, for a lot of these households the PVR and Freeview facilities would be little used making the box an expensive option. |

I've been thinking about switching providers but have been waiting for YouView details first. What are the odds of BT carrying the Sky channels or do you think they will only be available on TalkTalk's YouView service?
I'm wondering if I go ahead and sign up with TalkTalk now, will I end up wishing I'd waited for BT to announce their details first..? |

Scroll to the bottom and have a read of the small print section. I'm taking it to mean there's no way to record any pay channels at all then? Definite no-no if that's the case then |

I personally wouldnt pay for any channel that I can't record on my PVR. This is a biggy and one which will kill any takeup of the TV boost packages. |

I dont like the idea that different vendors will carry different channels, I wouldnt mind sky channels but i wouldn't go back to Talk Talk if you paid me.
I thought that the whole point of YouView was that it bought everything together under one brand but now it seems that it will be fractured. |

It is early days yet, it will take a while for the Lovefilm, Netflix and NOW TV clients to arrive on all boxes regardless of your ISP. If this does not happen, AMS will have a lot to answer to.

I made the point on another thread here that people were making significant assumptions on the IPTV capability of the Youview boxes, despite the only real detail in the intial launch offering being on Freeview + Catch Up. Can live tv on an IPTV channel even be paused??? |

I wouldnt generalise either. Dont forget, this is TalkTalks IPTV service, I'm hoping BT's version has no such limitation. |

If it does It will probably be much more expensive, after all you can't record Now TV and Sky would hardly let BT undercut that

But normal iPlayer etc can pause can't it its not really recording is it, its just stopping a stream pausing live tv could be said to be recording because its being written to an HDD during the pause |

Iplayer is VOD and is not live linear TV. A live IPTV stream is no different to a live TV signal, if you pause it you need to record the data that is still coming. |

The reason I posed the pause question is because I have an Orange IPTV box in France, which is capable of pausing live tv even on IPTV channels e.g. Disney, Canal+ Movies, Canal + Sport etc, but the box itself has no recording capability.
It can pause for upto 90 mins only I think so I guess it has a very small hard drive. On the Orange box you switch between IPTV channels and Digitial Terrestrial channels seamlessly, and wouldn't notice any difference in functionality between the two. |

One step forwards, two steps back.
I have been looking forward to the launch of YouView, but when I saw that Humax's box was £299 I decided against it. How can I justify replacing my HDR-FoxT2 just to add ITV Player, 4oD and Demand 5? Especially as my computer is connect to my TV.
Then I saw that TalkTalk were offering a YouView box for free in return for renewing my contract. I've had no problems with TalkTalk for the two years I've been with them, and I plan to stay with them anyway. But I'm not convinced that it's necessary to pay £50 for installation. Not only that, but all the optional additional channels appear to be SD only - and you can't record them ![]() It's almost as if getting a YouView box from TalkTalk would be a downgrade! I think I'll stick with Freeview+HD for now. |
