Foxsat record Olympics channels

Just heard from Freesat HQ that despite all previous assurances, it won't be possible to record the extra Olympic channels on the HDR. Once again, I'm guessing, Humax software dev. utter shambles! How long have they had to test, ffs? Can't say I didn't anticipate this, after all the smug pats on the head from the marketing types!

Let's be British, and rise to this great occasion!

This is quite simply unacceptable.

What is the point of having 24 channels if you can't record them? You can't even rewind or pause.

According to @Freesat_TV , the other manufacturers of Freesat boxes work well. Sky works too.

I am beyond angry.

I have to say I am glad I decided to get sky a couple of months ago for my bedroom, Still got freesat in the living room but it won't be getting much use over the next few weeks now! Hope my sky box doesn't get full!

Not much consolation but using the custom firmware you can add the SD streams to the Foxsat-hdrs epg. These are recordable from the epg.

Just think of the hdd space you will save.

not that I am interested in football but I pressed record on my Echostar HDS-600RS and it started to record BBC Olympics 2 HD on channel 152 so it does look as if it is a Humax problem.

Basic instructions and download here.

http://www.avforums.com/forums/frees...-part-2-a.html

More detailed ones in the download package and read me's installed on the hdr.

The hdr must have a home network connection and also the PC being used to install the additional packages like the channel editor. Lot's of help in the above thread.

Humax boxes start recording, the recordings disappear when recording stops. Can you play back the recording and use the usual transport buttons. ie pause, rewind, fast forward etc. ?

That's just so typical of everything to do with this device after version 1 left the factory gates. When it doesn't do something, it can't even simply not do it, it has to do something wacky. I worked with some software people a while back who never understood why people made such a fuss about things being user-robust. Think I've discovered where they work now.

(Just possible I sound irritated)

yes of course it allows playback as after all there would be not much point in recording.

I only recorded a few minuets and then pressed play to test it as I am not into football but its recording and playing back as normal.

I didn't ask if you can play it back, I asked if the transport controls work as expected. Pause, rewind fast forward etc. I'm not that daft

I think you only see the fault clearly when you get to the gavottes and the quadrilles.

Oh dear this bad news I hope Humax are burning the midnight oil to get a fix sorted as I really need to record the cycling on Saturday.

It's sad that the Humax isn't working. The Samsung SMT-S7800 works fine recording the Olympic HD channels - although I'm not in the least interested in football.

I'm trying to add the SD channels using the custom firmware, but where do I find the SD Olympic channels listed in the Channel Editor? I can only see channels 151 - 174 which are the HD ones.

Thankfully the MotoGP is at Laguna Seca this weekend so I will be at home in the evening to watch the quali live on whichever Red Button stream it gets shuffled onto.

Freesat have said on twitter that Humax boxes won't be able to record the channels, so doesn't sound like they're working on a fix, sounds like they've given in.

Use manual tune scan the SD transponders listed here.

http://en.kingofsat.net/find.php?question=BBC+Olympic

While still in non-freesat use list to find the channel nos allocated.

Switch back to Freesat mode. Using the channel editor locate the new channels, select Freesat and visible for them all. Write the changes back to the hdr and re-boot as instructed.

Your epg should now have the SD channels at the channel numbers you noted in the first step.

Someone has suggested that any reservation you set from the epg needs the times adjusting to convert to a manual one. Testing in progress

I'd like to add the custom software. It looks quite tricky. Is it?

Also, will I lose the proogrammes that I have already recorded?

Thanks in advance!

it's a real mess of issues. If the problem had been identified sooner it might have been fixable, however the night before the Olympics Sky don't want to start messing around with their kit. There have been very hgh level comms between BBC, Freesat, Sky and Humax but the risk of messing up Sky's channels and other Freesat boxes has been deemed too risky.

Most broadcast systems have been on lockdown for a couple of weeks to try to ensure a stable Olympics..so it's not surprising there isn't a solution.

It's screwed up plans by many BBC departments to use Freesat to record or monitor Olympic events, believe me I've spent that last 3 days trying to find a fix for our needs.

I feel most sorry for the people who will only discover this when they come to view their recordings. At least I know not to bother.

I hope this wasn't accidently on purpose on Sky's part.

It seems unlikely that only Humax boxes would be affected while, reportedly, the Echostar and, to my certain knowledge, the Samsung work fine.
