Making Money After BB

We know the days of making money after BB is long gone a few years ago even the lowest of HM's could make a few quid off the back of been a HM.

I think today that unless you win or get a chuck of the prize money that even if you do get a bit of money (Lauren in NUTS for example) or mange to flog a story you will be lucky to cover your outgoings (New clothes and stuff - loss of work ) for going in most will come out running at a loss.

I totally agree, I said on another thread that this will mean that they will attract either freelance model types or students who can afford to take the time off. I guess you could add to that wealthy people.

If they insist on a narrow age range then they are going to continue to get the same types of housemates because they are the only ones that can afford it.

I don't know what the answer is, CBB gets a great cross-section of housemates because it is only a few weeks and they get paid anyway.

Maybe they should make an over 50s special!

Apart from glamour work, no one except Josie has made any money for years. They all know that now; BB10 marked the dawn of the new realism, with the housemates often laughing and joking about how few people would be watching them, and how unsuccessful they would all be afterwards.

The last person apart from Josie to get an actual 'star' tv series of their own (unless we count Grace and Mikey's three-viewers series on the Wedding Channel) was Nikki, modest as it was; the last person to have a successful music release was Samanda' truly ghastly effort, and that was only a very small hit; the last person apart from Josie to get any magazine interest was Chanelle.

Josie is a total anomaly; Ch 5 bought the franchise, had a huge gap between series, and needed someone to keep the brand alive in the meantime.

Really the only current BB media stars are Josie and Chantelle; Imogen a bit perhaps.

Almost any of the BB13 girls could make a bit of money in glamour magazines if they want to, but that is likely to be it. If Becky gets any tv work, as she has said she hopes to do, I won't be watching.

I think you are ignoring the fact that lots of the housemates have more opportunities than if they hadn't been on BB so it is still worth it to them still. It may for example help Luke S in his club promotions. It will probably help Lydia, Lauren, Deana, Sara to get work. It may help others.

I seriously doubt that nowadays they may get one or two more jobs but not enough to cover the expense of going in and the time and effort of taking part.

Most of them don't have real jobs anyway (Caroline's on her second gap year for instance) so anything they get out of BB will be a bonus. I think that the sheer amount of Hms in any one year must dilute the possible work out there and so drive down prices. If you can't get a particular housemate for a certain price then there's bound to be one of them that'll do it. Say you want Luke S to open a bar for £500 but he won't do it for less than £1000 then you'll easily get someone like Chris to do it for what you're offering. Then Luke S will have to say "I better drop my prices or I'll get no work at all." The vicious circle will continue until they're "working" for free drinks or all the kebabs they can eat.

I don't think they will even get that nowadays they are not even high enough calibre to open the local Corner Shop.

Even if they don't have a job to quit or take time off they still have outgoings to pay and I really don't think most will make enough back to cover that

I recall Ashleigh and Shievonne talking quite early on about John and Josie and reality TV shows, etc., I do really think that Ash has some kind of fantasy of being as popular as JJJ were back then in certain quarters and following in their footsteps. Mind you, they still thought JJJ were together, and so obviously have a rather rosy view of what it could be like for them.

They really don't do much research before they go in, or they would have seen that last year's romances didn't receive the lucrative magazine deals that the previous C4 couple did.
