I had an email from Samsung this afternoon saying
At present the ITV Player is currently in testing for the 2012 E-series products as ITV have updated there flash system and an entirely new line of software had to be developed to maintain compatibilty with our TVs software.
At this time we have no further information as to when OR if it will be rolled out to the 2011 D-series line.
Thank You not Samsung

Thank you for that info ftsemonks. Makes you wonder why their PR decided to push that news out in the first place.

WTF's the point in purchasing a Samsung TV to have them abandon it the first chance they get. By all means make new TV's but don't abandon the older models from 2011 ffs.

Sony are doing the exact same thing dont worry. No BBC News app on the 2010 models, no Netflix on both 2010 and 2011 models.

Just tried to load my smart hub up. Got a downloading/installing box in the top corner, the smart hub didnt load at this time. It dd its thing and said that there will be maintanance on the 19th, 5am to 11am. Wonder if anything new will get added.

Also unhappy if samsung abandon the 55d8000 this early. Only bought mine at december for
£1500.

ITV player is on the app store now, says that i need the latest firmware for it to work, which i have. Anyway some guy has just posted this on the av forums -

Samsung haven't a clue as they say they are not responsible for 3rd party apps, but I managed to get the following from ITV:

"Dear Sir/Madam

Thank you for contacting ITV.

To use the ITV player app on your Smart TV you will be required to download the correct firmware which will be available over the network from 23rd July.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any further questions.

Kind Regards

Andrew

Samsung are not forgiven. My TV D6100 does not have those apps.
Great TV, Pity Samsung made the TV.
Samsung are like an insurance Company. My dear Nan always said, Insurance company's piss in the same pot with the bankers

I have a Samsung UE40D8000 LED Model which is only about 6 months old.
I had a notification on screen than the app ITV player was available so I downloaded it to the Smart Hub and lo it installed!
When I open it however it tells me I require new firmware which can be downloaded from the Samsung site.
I did this and installed the extracted firmware on a USB stick.
When I installed the firmware into the TV it appeared to accept it and switched the TV on and off as normal but when I try to run ITV Player it tells me I still require firmware.
I have spoken to Samsung Care Centre 3 times all to no avail.
They appear not to have a clue what is happening.
The last call I made I was told they would ring back within 15 minutes with the answer.
That was 24 hours ago and still waiting.
Has anyone got ITV Player working and how!
Thanks.

Sorry bud, i work night shift so first chance to reply to your post. I have the 55". Here is the 40" firmware update, wasnt available via tv for me, only pc,

http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mo...UXXU-downloads

On a side note, last night i was watching the footie before work and i thought i had a dead pixel, one bright pixel when it was on a bright screen, ie green grass. Went to work fussing about it, came home and there it still was. just wiped my tv and crisis over, i feel like such a tool

My mate at work said that sammy wouldnt fix my tv even though it is only 7 months old, for only one dead pixel. Is that right? I'D be gutted if that was true.

As smcbeath suggests about a firmware upgrade, I tried that and one is available from the website. I couldn't find my model via Products, but through Support.

If I download it and place on USB, it says 'No file available to upgrade'.
If I do it by online (using wireless connection), it says there's 'No software to upgrade currently'.
If I do it by channel, it says 'Software unavailable for upgrade'.

Okay, I managed to upgrade via USB (hadn't extracted the .exe).

I still can't see either app, though.

Thanks smcbeath,
The version 1025 firmware works and my ITV Player is now working.
It appears Samsung are unaware of this.
1024 was the version on their site two days ago, which I downloaded and it didn't work.
In my opinion Samsung's help desk is worse than useless!
Anyway thanks again.
Eddie.

the ITV app just appeared on my Samsung TV App store today. Works just as it should.

I have the es6800 model, so that makes a working BBC iPlayer, BBC Sport and ITV apps.

All we need now really is 4oD, but somehow I can't see those guys moving fast - they are virtually nowhere and have even taken steps backwards such as withdrawing airplay support.

I am pleased for you. I don't think I will get the ITV player on my D6100 TV.
Samsung lie, they told me they had no plans for the ITV Player then said only the 2012 TVs would get it after testing

I hope they won't mind me quoting, but Samsung told me today:

"The ITV Player application will soon be available to 5000 and 6000 series Samsung Smart TVs but is not currently."
