I thought he was at his best in Coronation St with Stan and Hilda. It was a great show back then, not all this Eastenders-style nastiness.
He was good as Onslow too, he plays a great slob. Or he did. RIP.

Yep. Onslow was a great comic creation I reckon. Although if a real-life Onslow was shown on Jeremy Kyle, people would throw things at the TV!

Good writing and great characterisation stopped Onslow from being a hated character into a loveable rogue.

It was never mentioned how he funded his beer n' fags lifestyle or if they drew benefits. The only things we knew for sure was that none of them worked, he was work-shy and spent any spare cash down the bookies or the 'offie'! The cash definitely didn't go on a new car or TV!

Y'alright, Twig.

Eddie Yates.

Absolute legend and in Corrie when it was at its comedy best.
He was hilarious.

Stan, Hilda and Eddie were a brilliant comedy team.

Loved him in Heartbeat as well. I never watched Royale Family or KUA so I can't comment on those characters.

Eddie Yates. As somone else has said on here that was when Corry was fantastic with plenty of northern humour, not just serial killer after serial killer. His scenes with Stan and 'Mrs O' where brilliant.

Eddie Yates def although he was great in the Royle Family. As mentioned Corrie was fantastic back in those days. I wish they would start those repeats again like they used to on Granada Plus - remember that channel?.

Definitely Onslow, slobbiness aside you could tell he was a decent bloke as demonstrated by the obvious sympathy he had for Richard

All his roles were good, but Onslow was my absolute favourite. Imagine Keeping Up Appearances without Onslow... it wouldn't have been anywhere near as good.

Onslow is one of my favourite sitcom characters of all time. So much so I can't even pinpoint one moment from KUA as I type this. RIP, Sir.

I agree . That is when I first saw him and I'll always remember his episodes with Hilda and Stan as some of the best comedy ever on tv .

Jim and Twiggy laughing hysterically about Dave forgetting he had parked his van outside the chemists and reporting it to the police as stolen is so infectiously funny for me.

Also an Onslow favourite phrase:

Onslow: Any more breakfast Daise?
Daisy: You've drank it all

:-)
