Yes, it was about him saying nasty things on Twitter about various people, and I think the moderators got rid of it

I see Daddy has popped in and sorted it out for his precious boy, then?

It wasn't just locked people, it mysteriously disappeared. There was nothing libellous on there and no threatening behaviour.

What does that tell you ?

I think that's exactly what's happened.

There was a story in the Mail (!) about tweets made to him mocking him about his childhood leukaemia. Which, whilst obviously disgusting, made no mention of his homophobic and vile tweets to and about others.

If we ever wondered how Linekar Snr's indiscretions remained out of the public domain, I think we now have an answer. He must have such a tight rein on the media and what's published.

Gary Lineker is absolutely odious and this is a chip off the old block. I can't stand him and I hate him being on the Olympics as he knows buggerall about anything other than football. How that underwear model can stick him is beyond me. I feel sick thinking about the lot of them and ashamed of him coming from the same city as me.

Crikey - are we still here? ..:-]

It's understandable that Lineker Senior wishes to protect his son in [or,from the] public. But God almighty... I'd be fecking depressed about having shelled out £20-30,000 a year on the kid's education, especially after reading those tweets. That's a lorra lorra crisp ads, even if you don't have three other sons to think of.

The article in question. No DS poster posted anything along the lines of the Tweets described. Did the Twitterer start the argument, or did he respond disproportionately/inappropriately to provocation? DM version is strictly one-sided..

That one tweet was a drop in the ocean. There were far more tweets prior to that where he was insinuating people were gay and gypsies or whatever (in much harsher terminology of course).

I think in the initial thread about George I was probably seen as one of the people defending him but in truth, the lad just seems really thick to me. He seems to have no awareness of the fact his dad works for the BBC so he should maybe rein in the bad language or abuse. The things he says are really infantile but in recent weeks it seems that people have started goading him even more - why he doesn't just block those idiots is beyond me. But to be honest, I don't think he's a monster - I think he's just really immature and for some reason Linekar Senior doesn't seem keen on advising his son to tone things down.

He is cringeworthy on the Olympics, I think most of the country have been waiting for Ian Thorpe to deck him one
