Well, I don't know why it is a 1.30 kick-off, I don't think it's ever been that early on a Sunday before (I think in the first few years on Sky it was a Saturday 12.30 kick-off once). But they've got to play it on that day, and you'd probably rather go out on the last day of the Olympics rather than any other day. And it'll get a far higher audience on ITV1 than it would have got on Sky.

Well, there was an obvious point for the recap because the news gets quite a big audience so presumably there'd have been quite a big casual audience switching straight on on BBC1, having not seen it, and it made sense to show it again. And you would have to move to BBC1 at that point anyway, or you'd be showing Olympics on three channels. I would assume that the Beeb would rather have had the final at any other time than opposite the regional news, but what can you do?

I would argue that they should have curtailed the News by 10 minutes to run the race on BBC One, but to be fair the race was scheduled for an earlier time but delayed due to the disqualifications.

The delays at the Velodrome didn't help the BBC at all tonight - the final was due around 6.15pm and if it hadn't been delayed Roger Mosey says they'd have kept it on BBC1. I think though the ratings will show tomorrow there were more viewers switching over from BBC2 just before 7pm than inherited from the regional news and switching to a recap was quite disrespectful to live sport fans, 24 channels or not.

Yes, Mosey thinking obviously correct - very unfortunate timing / circumstances - nothing else BBC could reasonably have done.

Re final day - Men's marathon is going to lead in absolutely perfectly into the Boxing finals. Even though no likely UK medal in marathon the audience will be with the Olympics and I'm sure BBC will massively dominate over Community Shield.

30.5m average for NBC last night as the mostly swimming dominated coverage didn't appeal so much as the gymnastics shown the previous night

That's got some absolutely stinking reviews, every review I've seen has slagged it off, and the first series was really badly received as well. And given two thirds of the cast have left, and the original production company went bust, that has to be one of the most baffling recommissions of recent years.

Well, yeah, I wasn't saying it was going to be a ratings buster but over three million watched Team GB on BBC3 last night up against the swimming finals on BBC1 so there's an audience there for football. Perhaps inexplicably as I don't care about anything until the first day of the season.

I don't want to rain on his parade but is that not like saying the sun will rise in the morning. It's a given that it would beat Beijing given its home Olympics and time difference from Beijing.

Aww don't spoil his fun.

Actually in a way I preffered Beijing, then I would wake up to medals having been won, here I have to go through the stress of actually having to watch it live heh.

Everyone knows this, its still ratings info; and 6 days is rather a good time to beat in. Were not even at the Athletics yet!

ITV's press person excitedly tweeting that The Briefs was most watched factual show at 9pm, including repeat, with a whopping 2.4m.

How the mighty....

I assume the Olympics won the hour.

If they're boasting about that I can only assume they were expecting even worse and 2.4m is a relief. If anything it suggests that under 'normal circumstances' this one might have done alright by ITV's usual Summer standards. I'm sure tonight's Soham documentary will do quite a bit worse.

Terrific for the Olympics again, and Corrie seems to be holding up well against them. Good for Keith Lemon's new show.

On another note, ITV2 are airing Xtra Factor Rewind on Saturday 11th August, which all but confirms that the main show will be back the following week.

They wouldn't.

Its just a very poor standard Mens Football tournament with the exception of Brazil.

That's a maybe, but it's the closest that those players will ever get to winning a (even slightly) meaningful international football tournament.

That's off topic, though, of course.

Although 2.4m for ITV1 in the 9pm for a factual show isn't out of the ordinary at all - Olympics or no Olympics.

In your opinion. Perhaps they should arrange a friendly.

At least the British side can string more than a few passes together. and must pundits thought they wouldn't get out of the group.

I think they would beat them IMO.

Off topic of course.

Notice Beaver Falls returns for it's second series on E4 on Monday at 10pm. OK, it's got a chance in the post Revenge slot but quite a poor time to launch a new series of anything surely, not so much the slot but getting eyeballs on any promos that might be airing while the Olympics are dominating rating. I've not seen a single promo for it yet, but I've not been watching E4 - and that's kind of my point. If anything they'd have been better off launching it a week earlier.
