Appbrain whats the point?

Might sound daft but whats the point in this market? You go in select an app it redirects you to the playstore to install the app now why did I not just go there in the first place?

I installed CM9 on my SGS2, thought I would go in to appbrain and sync and get all my apps back I installed before installing CM9 but damn all happens, I go to the website it shows the apps I had previously installed with the only option being to uninstall, no option to reinstall them to my CM9 SGS2

So I now have to go in manually and redownload everything from the my apps section of the play store as auto restore doesn't work on the SGS2.

It dates back to the early days of the official Android Market when, for reasons no-one really understood, the Market's own search function was God-awful.
It was actually easier to search via a third-party site like AppBrain and then use that to switch across to the official market.

That and I think it pre-dates the launch of the Android Market/Play Store website.

That it did. Why? god only knows but I can remember how painful it was to be limited to searching for apps on my phone and I found AppBrain a godsend at the time. Haven't really used it since the launch of the Play website.

When I've upgraded to a new phone or received a replacement phone due to a problem with a handset I think Android is meant to be able to install the same apps you had on your previous handset, based on your Google account. This has never worked for me and the nearest I've got to it working is when I've been allowed to reinstall the apps one by one, which takes forever with 80-odd apps, Appbrain allows all apps to be installed at once with the Fast installer add-on. The Android Play store/Market may be able to do this but I've never managed to get it to work.
