Not in any official announcement, no. But it has subsequently been quoted on the VM Community forums by the staff there.

I have had this message for just over a week now:

Exciting news - we're giving you a free broadband boost to up to 120Mb, the UK's fastest ever widely available broadband!

Some people may need a new modem to make the most of up to 120Mb broadband. If that includes you, we'll send you a free Virgin Media Super Hub that can handle speeds of up to 120Mb and more.

Check when your area's going to be upgraded.
Just click 'Check now' to find out if you need a new modem.
Check now

Annoyingly, the information on both of the links they include are to do with the 100mb upgrade I already got last month.

Re-check your Postcode Here http://doublespeed.virginmedia.com/?...DoubleSpeeds_2

It should say from Month 2012 to Month 2012/2013

That's not been announced officially at all, so that's just your assumption.

November? My 120meg speed upgrade details just state the Autumn, with my double speed update sometime from Sept to Nov:

I'm really disappointed my speed upgrade to 100 has been delayed for 6 months to a year. Especially because I was considering upgrading just before they announced the double speed improvements and therefore decided to hold off and just get it for free.

To be honest, the service has degraded ever since I was switched to DOCSIS 3.

Considering cancelling and going elsewhere. Always getting letters from BT and Sky so will have to look in to it.

You should upgrade to Virgin 100MB Broadband service, you will not be disappointed, I constantly get 77MB or more, far more than I would be getting with BT, Sky, etc

I will check my speed again tonight and will report back

Here are my 100meg download averages for yesterday (courtesy of SamKnows):

Code:
23:00	105.96
22:00	106.70
21:00	106.48
20:00	105.94
19:00	106.39
18:00	105.50
17:00	106.42
16:00	106.43
15:00	106.27
14:00	106.20
13:00	107.35
12:00	106.90
11:00	105.61
10:00	107.21
09:00	107.24
08:00	107.17
07:00	107.31

03:00	106.00
02:00	106.21
01:00	106.78
00:00	107.59
And the uploads (I'm still on 5meg upload)

Code:
23:00	4.93
22:00	4.88
21:00	4.87
20:00	4.90
19:00	4.93
18:00	5.14

08:00	4.96
07:00	5.10
06:00	4.86
05:00	4.90
04:00	4.91
03:00	4.95
02:00	5.01
01:00	4.81
00:00	4.86
The downloads used to drop (to around 60-70meg) from around 9pm-2am, but this improved to give me those sort of figures consistently after some re-segmentation work was undertaken.

Now granted, I could be one of the lucky ones, but it does show that 100meg is not necessarily as bad as some are experiencing.

Oh well just checked and my free up grade has been put back, nearly 12 months. I know it is free but Virgin were quick to advertise what they were going to do for their customers but they aren't shouting very loud about the delays!
I don't mind the wait I would just like some honesty and better communication...as far as I am concerned I would have preferred not being bombarded about the upgrade in speeds but be told that the upgrade had happened and I could start using the new speeds instead now I am a little disappointed in having to wait!

Yup, i was originally planned to be upgraded this month, been pushed back to December now!

again, no its free, but there quick to advertise it.

Still, nothing surprises me with VM anymore!

Shame i live out in the sticks and the quickest alternative is 5mb from BT/Sky

Im moving to Birmingham city centre next May month where VM dont have their fibre broadband.
Ive had 50Mb for ages now and have been hoping to have a taste of 120Mb before i move to the slower 76Mb from BT Infnity.

On Thursday of last week the website started showing the correct information (after sending the webteam an e-mail) -- My area has apparently finished upgrading and the 120 service is ready to go.

Also means I can get my free superhub. Not entirely sure how I feel about that part.

Just checked back on the doublespeed upgrade page, a few days ago it was stating that my area would be upgraded between September and November 2012, now it states

Your area is being upgraded

We estimate your area will be ready by the end of: September 2012

Great news - our engineers are close to finishing the network upgrade in your area

So things are moving, and it's looking pretty positive.

My upgrade was completed a few days ago, from 50 to 100. I'm still on an old Virgin modem with my old router, so I've had to send off for a SuperHub. It was easy enough, but the earliest date I could select was the 13th. I want my free speed double now damn it!

So was ours but I rang up and moaned and they gave me the upgrade immediately (see above). Definitely worth a try.

They will probably only do it if they are confident that your area can cope with it (in other words, it would have to have a fair bit of headroom).

Checking the website, I saw our area was ready!

However: Running some speedtests suggested it wasn't. A call to customer services confirmed it wasn't.

So it would appear the website is not necessarily correct.

And has done for the last month, but I am still on 10Mb.

Am I really supposed to call up and get hornswaggled into a new 12 months contract ?

You should phone Virgin up and see if they can upgrade you to 20MB at least, you can get 30MB if you get the Superhub as a replacement for your old Modem

Phone Virgin Retentions and not Virgin Customer Services

See what they say and report back

EDIT: I have just checked the Virgin website again and it said that the programme will now finish in February 2013 and not May 2013

Yes I have checked my speed several times and I am hitting just over 90MB at all times of the day with no restrictions at all and I am a very heavy user - Torrents, Videos, the lot

I have had no slowdowns whatsoever

2-4GB of files downloads in just over a few seconds

No buffering at all, everything plays after one second

I cannot beat it

Well done Virgin
