Sleeping Dogs

Anyone picking this up on the 17th?

Having read a few previews and watched a few gameplay videos it actually looks fairly decent! Love the way the combat flows like the Batman games and the environmental kills look awesome! Gun play, along with the driving mechanics look solid too.

Looking forward to picking this up next week! I would post some gameplay videos but am unable to as I'm at work!

Anyone else interested in this?

A game cancalled by money grabbers Activision and then picked up Square Enix that just can't seem to make truly great games outside of final fantasy (and we know opinion on the lastest FF games) and it doesn't look good

I'll probably pick this up in a few months after in fails but square enix claim it sold as they expected

Never played FF so can't comment on that but they made Just Cause 2 - brilliant game!

Got to agree Just Cause 2, one of the best games this generation, it has only got sqaure enix on the cover because they bought Eidos though

Thinking about sleeping dogs though, i did enjoy True Crime streets of L.A so maybe my thoughts on this are a little to harsh, i just can't see it doing well

Actually Just Cause 2 was made by Avalanche Studios (Renegade Ops) who are an independent developer. Eidos published it and Squeenix distributed it.

The last decent game from Squeenix was Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

I will wait for some reviews before making a decision on Sleeping Dogs.

I'll buy it as it looks good. I was also a fan of it's previous incarnation (True Crimes). But i will wait for a price drop, so i'll purchase around end of Sepetember.

The first review score by Official Playstation magazine gives it a 9/10.

Further to the above.....

The first Sleeping Dogs review has arrived via Official PlayStation Magazine UK and it's an impressive 9/10.

Editor Ben Wilson describes Square's open world crime game as "the best bits of a load of games you love pooled together with intelligence and humour."

The review adds: "This is the game Saints Row has spent a decade desperate to be, a rollercoaster open-world adventure set in an environment that's fun to explore and doss about in, and packed to the brim with rousing missions, happy diversions and other amazing stuff."

OPM's review concludes: "It's unquestionably 2012's most brilliantly brutal surprise, and you're duty-bound to check it out".

As already mentioned, did you not play Deus Ex: Human Revolution? One of the best games from last year?

It looks like Square Enix are going to continue a trend of releasing a quality game (based on early reviews) after the summer drought.

I think the game does look excellent and more interesting than GTA especially since I find the gameplay mechanics in those games are poor and the criminal storyline not uninteresting.

I don't what you guys are talking about, square are the Publishers for Deus ex:HR did not make it, that was Eidos Montreal (Before Edios lost most of the control in 2009)

With sleeping dogs, that is made by United Front Games and Square Enix London Studios. Most likely one working on 360/PS3 version and the other, working on the PC version.

Activision don't make Call of Duty and EA don't make Battlefield but both publishers are associated with those brands since they are the publishers and promoters. In any case Eidos Interactive are a subsidiary of Square Enix so it is "internal development".

The original comment was regard to Activision (only a publisher too) cancelling Sleeping Dogs and SE picking it up moving onto stating SE don't make good games.

Got this on pre order, cant wait.

Especially like the line in OPM about "This is the game Saints Row has spent a decade desperate to be" - so disappointed in the last saints row & with next GTA not here until next year really looking forward to this

This game has quite alot of bug's as of now so let's hope a patch will come out soon to fix this.

As for gameplay the hand to hand is good (just like batman) the driving fun also but the shooting system suck's.

Yes of cause I know that, I was just saying comparison to squares main franchises, and sleeping dogs is pointless. For most of Deus ex development, square had no influence.

True Crime the original title got picked up again mostly through the development, only changing the name because square did not buy the rights to name. That is year now since they picked up rights, I doubt much changed in that finale year. So again little influence probably throughout the development.

It's pointless to try to launch a new IP?

It was only branded a True Crime game but it was not originally developed as a one. The main development takes place in the last year; that's why it's always the crunch time in the cycle. In any case from what's been shown and the early reviews it looks like Square Enix made a good choice in picking it up and giving UFG more time to finish the game.

I'm looking forward to this.

Do you still have to do random police work a la True Crime? (pulling cars over, stopping robberies, hostages and the odd bomb?_

No your missing my point again, sorry maybe I'm explaining it wrong. I was simply saying comparing it to other franchise that square have full control over is pointless, Sleeping Dogs was not made under full control of square, the game had years of development time under another publisher. So NOT buying it on the bases, you feel square is supposedly declining in quality is not really good reason miss out on this game.

I love have Square have picked this up, I think giving cancelled games a chance is amazing. I've been lucky or unlucky depending on way look at it to see some very amazing games, that will never make it out and it's very annoying.

Sorry, typo; I changed my mind about phrasing while writing the message. To clarify I find criminal storylines rather boring.

Not sure on this, I guess so, only thing I've seen so far is working under cover for the police in the main story missions trying to track down a serial killer!

Maybe the chap a few posts above who has played it can clarify this!? Would also be interesting to know if there are any more activities in the game other than karaoke and cock fighting?

The hour long gameplay goes into lot of details about this.
