Swear words that aren't bleeped out before the watershed

I think a good example of this would be Top Gear, there are so many uses of 'bastard', 'cock' etc, and are rarely bleeped but sometimes left out, e.g: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBu7mU1yi9g (when he says 'you bastards!). Oh and piss and shit are most of the time bleeped out (I think one German guy said 'shitbox' but it wasn't bleeped).

It is left out sometimes, is it not considered that bad anymore?

Oh, and this may be off-topic a bit, but is damn considered as bad aswell? I say this because a group of teenagers on Britain's Got Talent last year performed 'Price Tag', and they changed the lyrics to 'acting so mysterious', leaving out damn.

I have to say that I'm more confused by some of the words that are censored on cable channels before the watershed.

Bitch, damn, penis, vagina - are these swear words now?

Bitch if used refering to a woman should be, but not damn, and the other 2 are just parts of the body like leg and head, so maybe should be allowed though I wouldnt want to hear it on CBBC

Bbc3 show a programme called dont tell the bride, at nine where the brides often swear. A while back one of the new channels, think its called really, started showing old eps during the day but didnt edit them so you hear all the swearing.

Only Fools And Horses was on earlier, between 6 and 7 this evening. Del's use of the word bastards was muted out yet 5 minutes later Cassandra could clearly be heard saying bullshit. Scratching my head over that one.

I think it's just laziness on the part of some of the further-down channels. Dave seems to be a particular offender.

Really? Why? I've noticed that it gets censored whatever the context.

ETA: These are comedy shows BTW so it's not as if these words are said with any venom.

I remember on Britain's Got Talent final this year (broadcast well before 9pm, at this point), Dec said before the doc act came on:

"He spent all week chilling with his bitches" And he got away with it as he didn't mean it in a bad way. I'm sure on X Factor some acts have sung songs with the word in em, the most notable 'Rocks', "Bitches keep bitching".

I've definitely heard the word bitch used in soaps before the watershed plenty of times, maybe a few bastards as well.

Some censoring does seem to be totally random. G.O.L.D. showed the Rowan Atkinson live stage show recently, after the watershed, and bleeped out some uses of the word shit but not others.

I have to say, I'm worried about more important things than a few naughty words being said on a TV programme.

I've hear the word 'pissed' in The Simpsons. I'm pretty sure that's a family show!

Birds of a Feather was shown on I think its was Comedy Extra at 4am a couple of months back and they blanked out the word "slang" and "cow" as swear words.

When Tina Hobley was in Coronation Street (as the biker barmaid), I distinctly remember her uttering 'BASTARD', which rather took me by surprise, given how early in the evening it was.

Biggest annoyance swear word[s] that were ok when show was originally broadcast, & repeats, but are censored when the programme is shown on a different channel, like Porridge as b'stard is said a couple of times but is censored by Gold, even though it was ok for years pre-watershead.

But then surely words like P*k* would have been said in comedies in the 70's but you wouldnt want to hear them now would you?
