Richard E Grant

I really dont know why everyone's dissing him, he's quite good and we know nothing about his role yet. And he is fairly iconic, in the Whoniverse. After all, he was THE 9th Doctor until Eccleston showed up

People are dissing it because they called him Iconic, when barely anyone thinks he is. Why didn't Dame Diana Rigg get a big announcement? Or why didn't David Troughton?

As long as they can pretend to be the person they're supposed to be pretending to be reasonably well, I really don't care. I'm not interested in reputations or celebrity appeal.

Stupid question.

They didn't cast him because he was an icon. They cast him because they felt he fits the part.

The "icon" thing only came about when it came to some PR monkey going on twitter announcing the casting.

How can anybody possibly comment on who else should have been cast, without knowing the part that's being played.

I wanna see Eva Green in Doctor Who, even for just a cameo.

I was thinking a suitable icon would be Prince.
Is an icon the same as a symbol?

I think Rowan Atkinson in his role as Mr Bean..... can you just imagine the chaos that would ensue if Mr Bean was let loose in the TARDIS?

I thought we already had. Namely Matt Smith.

Actually I did expect someone of Sean Connery's stature when they said " iconic".

Iconic means to me
Sean Bean,
Ian McKellen,
Christopher Lee or even
Daniel Radcliffe (I say even because he is quite young compared to the others)

Johnny Depp would blow our minds off, not going to happen unless offered a big salary though.
