If it's so accessible I'm surprised they haven't been shut down 100%!

Buy individual tracks in digital format.

Which are only available in MP3 format. The poster I quoted was talking about audio CDs anyway.

Am I right in thinking that file-sharing sites could be hosted by, well, orbiting satellites which would be out-of-range of any countries laws - unless they (that'll be the USA then) want to blast them out of the sky? I know it's mightily expensive (a) buying a satellite (b) getting it into space and (c) keeping it there, but if Megaupload really DID have the £M's it's reported to have, it's not beyond the bounds that a pay-filesharing site could be hosted in space? The moon?? Especially if there are legit services on it as well??

Could be another 007 movie in this, except Mr. Bond will finally lose and his films will be available to everyone for a very small fee (although 10 billion small fees is a lot in the long run!)

Sites originating in China and Russia are hardly going to comply to the American dominated music and film industry.

Thankfully.
One wonders if it could ever get as far as another world war fighting for a countries economy - I could see the US trying to physically down sites at origin (eg Russian mp3 streaming and downloading sites which I can't link to from here) by cyber-attack; or even physical attack, which might be seen as an act of aggression/war by the receivers.. If the US ever did that to Russia or China, hand me the red flag, I know which side I'd be on.

Demonoid takedown prompts attacks by Anonymous

http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-19194467

Quote:
Members of the Anonymous hacktivist community have attacked websites belonging to the Ukrainian authorities after Demonoid was forced offline.

The BitTorrent link tracker's internet service provider (ISP) took it offline after being contacted by law enforcement officers.

The US had previously alleged Demonoid was one of the most visited sites used to share pirated content.

But I bet that if the site originated from the UK, then we would bow down and comply straight away!

About a week and half. They suffered a massive DDoS attack which initially took the site down, and then the Ukrainian authorities took advantage of that to seize their servers. Really pissed me as well, I was just getting my ratio to look decent too.

Now 'Anonymous' is on the Ukrainian's case. Should be fun to watch.

Mine too.

They'd better not shut 'em all down before next week's mid-season finale of Breaking Bad, or I'll be very cross indeed.

UKNova has closed there tracker.

http://torrentfreak.com/leading-ethi...y-fact-120827/

It seems Sky and the Premier League complained to FACT and Fact put pressure on UKNova there content was removed. UKNova tried to negotiate with FACT, FAct replied with "unless it can be proven that explicit permission from the copyright holder for that content has been obtained".

UKNova announcement

Quote:
Despite our efforts to cooperate with the UK media companies, FACT have stated: "ALL links or access to content provided by UKNova are infringing, unless it can be proven that explicit permission from the copyright holder for that content has been obtained".

Whilst we believe that they are wrong both legally and morally on account of the strong 'no commercial content' stance that we have always taken, we are not in a position to be able to risk lengthy and costly court battles to prove this. Therefore we have no other option but to close down the trackers. It has not been an easy decision to take, but it is apparently our only option.

UKnova never had sports on there so this can only be due to other sky 'in-house' programmes
