Radio Quiz Participation
Reading in the £1000 Minute Smooth Radio thread that it appears a member is taking part in the quiz next week.
Just wondering how many of us here have taken part in an on air radio quiz and how we got on and what was won? I will start the ball rolling as I took part in Ken Bruce's Popmaster in 2010, scored full marks and took part in the Champions League where I finished runner up. My prize was a Pure Mini One DAB radio and £50 worth of HMV vouchers. So who else? |

Tis me on tommorrow!!
I also came runner up in a Lost (tv show) related quiz on BRMB, I would have won a holiday to Hawaii but won a weekend to London in a 4* hotel and a 'Special Preview' of the new episode. If you look back on my old threads you'll see that i think the question was unfair and complained but got no where, the weekend was good but no hawaii!! |

Lot's of bits and pieces over the years, starting with "50p and a tee shirt" from Cash on delivery on Capital, to an i pod from Richard Skinner on Saturday afternoon R2, with a highest break prize fom DLTs "Snooker on the Radio".
I'm over the OCD now though!! |

Quiz Kid 1977 heat winner... A 247 t-shirt, pen, calendar, stickers, and a signed copy of double album of Alan Freeman's By Invitation Only. Doesn't sound much, does it? But being there inspired me. First at school, university and then professionally, as I knew what I wanted to do from that moment on. Thanks to Tony Wilson and Alan Freeman.

I won a trip to Australia on LBC in 1999. It was the breakfast show with Anne Diamond and Steve Jones (he'd taken over from Tommy Boyd who'd left the day before).
It was strange the way it happened as it was a Friday and I'd taken the day off work, but had forgotten to cancel my radio alarm at 7:15am and the radio came on just as Anne Diamond was saying, "This is the last of our competitions this week to win a trip to Australia if you can answer this question. What is the word in Aborigine for 'You won't understand?'" I immediately knew the answer from hearing Rolf Harris explain what "kangaroo" meant on a children's TV show in the 1970s, so I spent the next 45 minutes calling LBC, but each time it rang for two minutes and then cut out. I kept hitting the redial button and after about 30 attempts someone finally answered. I told them the answer and the guy said he'd have to check that I was the 100 caller and if I was he'd call me back. I received a call at 8:15 and was put straight on the air when Anne confirmed my answer was correct and that I'd won. I wondered at the time if they knew how long I'd been trying and whether they'd logged my numerous attempts in order to give me the prize. Anyway, I went on a 6 week trip to Australia in January 2000 and it was fantastic ! |
