Anyone else feeling underwhelmed by the new season?

After the magnificent Olympics that we've just witnessed I'm really not looking forward to the new season at all as I feel totally underwhelmed at the prospect of watching these overpaid prima donnas again. We'll be back to pointless and boring headlines about footballers soon enough. I'm getting more bored by football and it's greed season by season.

I mean c mon who actually watches that sports day stuff ? I certainly havent watched a seconed of it and dont know anybody who has.

Anyway move over gymnasts and runners and make way for the proper sports men and the greatest show on earth The Premier League, we will all be glued to our screens week in week out till may, not this part time every 4 years crap.

29 million people, that's who has been watching these games. 19 million watching 3 British hopefuls winning golds back to back. Unforgettable.

I think that's the problem, the Premier League is more of a 'show' than the pure sporting competition we have enjoyed at the Olympics.

Troll post alert! That's if you mean this, with a straight face. Yes, they just all turn up once in 4 years and hey presto do the performances of a lifetime, without anything in between. Get real. Premier footy players aren't real sporting men compared to some of what we have seen this Olympics. Most are minnows in comparison, with a nice fat wallet weighing them down. Good God even Andy Murray has got more stamina than most premier players.

Anyway if you're in Wales shouldn't you be concerned with oval balls, not round ones?

Once it all gets going yes but hopefully the on field football will be the main headlines and not petty stuff off it.

Football fatigue.

The Premier League ended, then straight to the Euros, then straight to an event which unified the country more than football has for years.

The Olympics were magnificent,
Just shows you how well this country can organise big events.
Maybe the question should be why did they not give us the WC. i am sure we would have done a marvellous job.
FIFA should should be ashamed they are the biggest embarrassment football has today

I'm having withdrawal symptoms already, didn't think I would get so hooked on the Olympics but I have loved every minute of it.

I don't like rugby but it's nice to know we are at least good with some ball.

Good to see you up early preparing for your morning cycle ride before you go swimming RT.

I really enjoyed the olympics, and it was great fun whilst it was on. But I'm certainly not underwhelmed by the new season because football is my greater love and always will be.

The massive amount of coverage of the Olympics has seen the football hidden a bit.

But give it a month or so when the Olympics are all but a memory and it'll be football all the way

There seems to have been no break this year at all. When last season ended we went pretty much straight into the euros. Then the olympics, and not even a week after its finished football's back. I'm a huge football fan and am looking forward to it, but it seems strange seeing as the new season usually takes forever to come round again but this year its already here. There's also been a real lack of build up so far, but i suppose attentions will turn to football within a couple of days, once the olympic hysteria has calmed down.

How many more of these topics are we going to see? It's getting pretty boring seeing people constantly referring to Premier League footballers as "over paid primadonnas" and constantly generalising.

It's as if the Olympics don't have its own bad competitors. There are cheaters, drug users, people who spit, athletes with a bit of a bad attitude and some even try to get others disqualified.

Not all Premier League footballers fall into the stereotypes people like the OP like to portray them as. And they're only "over paid" because people agree to pay them that wage, so to criticise them personally because of their wage is stupid I think. If people were that against it they wouldn't be going to the games throughout the season.

There would have been a pretty strong negative reaction had our athletes performed like the Aussie for example as taxpayers regardless of if they like the sports or not pay for their hobbies (which sports are in reality)

Ofcourse its great that so many did well and it was pleasing to see but its just as well they did really!

Actually I remember a lot of peole after the 2008 games saying "who cares, its their lifestyle we fund"

It would be unfair on those players who helped teams get promoted, win cups and titles to call them unprofessional/lacking in effort.

For example Chelsea won the European cup through sheer will to defend with lots of determination and "passion"
