Ah interesting. Imagine some of the events in the Lake District etc - it would be the scenic games

2044 - Cape Town

2060 - London
I certainly agree that Dubai will likely buy an Olympic Games by the date you mention at the latest.

Me too. So many Scots have hopefully found in the last 2 week that GB is a grear country to be a part of and let's just keep it like that.

I am proud to have any assocation with a nation who's capital has put on such a wonderful Olympics.

And Olympics are awarded to cities, not nations .

For Salmond's sake, I hope Glasgow 2014 doesn't appear a very damp squib in comparison.

By the 23rd century, we'll have zero-gravity events.

It'll be awesome.

It would certainly be nice to see it back in the next 20-30 years, but realistically theres not much chance. They generally like to move to a different continent each time, and the next few times it does come back to Europe, there are other places ahead in line. Paris will most likely be the next European host, which, while not the same as a home games, at least is close and easy to get to. As for London, maybe 50-60 years. The good thing is these games have done so well, it will be a nice reminder for future London bids to take advantage of.

Hopefully we'll get lots of other events until then though. Would be great to have the World Games back in London sometime soon too.

Madrid is a serious 2020 contender, and that is only 28 years after Barcelona, so there's no reason not to suspect we could be back in London in the 2030's, or 2040 I suppose by that reckoning.

I doubt it. Where the money going to come from? I doubt the spanish would want to subsidise the games when their own people are hurting badly. 40% odd youth unemployment.

It will be a damp squib, but that's no fault of Salmond or Glasgow. The Commonwealth Games might be a big thing for Jersey or the Isle of Man but it's no Olympics.

The main thing is that these Olympics have destroyed the slim chance he already had, of Alex Salmond getting the result he wants for Scottish Independence at that 2014 referendum. It seems like the marriage vows between the parts of the Union have just been re-affirmed loudly.

All things considered, I don't think 2032 is at all un-realistic and was a year that I kept thinking of while I was watching the Games. We've proved ourselves beyond any doubts, so our future chances look good, and for other events too. As I've said, if LA in the USA could get it in 1984, and just a mere 12 years later Atlanta in the USA hosted, then we should feel confident on our abilities, and could surprise ourselves, which I think is what we have all done with this glorious Olympic Games that Britain has socked to the world big time.

I think 2032 is just a bit too soon. However we did do a great job of these games.

Paris and New York surely will host it soon.

The only way it will happen within fifty years is if a host city has to drop out late in the day, and London steps in.
LA 1984 -> Atlanta 1996 isn't a valid comparison. The US is a much bigger country, and the UK probably only has one viable city. It would be more apt to compare US Olympic frequency to that of Europe as a whole.

2064.

2012 - 1948 = 64
1948 - 1908 = 40

64 + 40 = 104

104/2 - 52

2012 + 52 = 2064

It won't be in anyone's lifetime alive today.

. London has had it 3 times already. The world is full of cities. You could do a list of 15-20 cities before London again.

Plenty of new world and upcoming nations.

My bet is 21xx s if the games are still on then.

2116.

64 / 40 = 1.6
64 x 1.6 = 102.4
2012 + 102.4 ~= 2116

Working on the assumption the Planet does`t metaphorically implode in the foreseeable future...and the Geo-political system remains much as it is today...then barring last minute pull outs...I suspect it will be at least 40yrs...and realistically more like 60+yrs...However the World is changing and who knows what will happen over the next 20 or 30yrs....There is always the possibility the ever increasing cost of hosting the Games will result in the IOC knocking on our door....and lets not forget...that`s exactly what happened in 1948.

The west will never hold the games for a long time again due to the financial situation.

Atlanta being the home of coca cola had a lot to do with it.

Does it snow much in Much Wenlock? They could go for the Winter Games for January/February 2050. We'll probably be in a mini ice age by then, so they should get away with it!

Interesting question posed here. Just suppose that London had gone belly up in prep. Was there a defined alternate city to take the place of London 2012 in that instance?

After all, didn't London lose the 2005 World Athletic Championship after being awarded them, and they ended up in Helsinki?

I think 2032 is the earliest likely year London or another UK city could host it.

2020 - Madrid
2024 - Toronto
2028 - Nairobi
2032 - London/Sheffield
2036 - Mars
