Had a feeling it would be him.
For all his supposed misery Jacobs doesn't really wind guests up. |

Ok, it seems I've just missed Goldstein getting into a massive argument with a hack who was then hear to say that he'll "see you about this later, you and I will sort it out" etc. Did anyone catch it?

Yes blew up out of nowhere. Journo took offence when Goldestein asked if he had ever lied in his column.

I think Rob Beasley was trying to tell Andy Goldstein "I know where you live!".
![]() The trouble here is that Hawksbee - who might have steered the conversation to a more diplomatic shore - is absent and Goldstein is partnering Jacobs. I can't listen to the show anymore because of Jacobs (lucky to have caught this bit). His one-eyed opinions, 180 degree u-turns and (worst of all) calling people who disagree with him idiots are not attractive. This is a person who (without humour) could not understand why you can't play snooker on a ship. And of course Goldstein is also not the sharpest knife in the box. (I wonder if this episode will make it onto the listen again feature?) |

Roughly what happend Was Goldstein saying that Rob Beasley sun jurno should not be bringing football down in light of the Olympics then it got heated when Beasley had a go saying that talk sport often do things for a raection to wihch they replied thats is that not what the sun does, at the end Goldsteain said something along the lines of you mean you have never lied in one of your storys which pushed Beasley over the edge and he accused Goldstein of calling him a liar which he denied it ended with him saying this is not over! Think Goldsteain could be in trouble hope not because I agreed with most of what he said and Beasley was having a real go at them for no reason they gave him plenty of time to put his point over and would not let them interupt him.

Many thanks for filling me in. Can't bring myself to feel sorry for Goldstein even though he appears to be in the right. The man is simply a prize tool. I agree that Hawksbee would have salvaged something and brought things back on track. I think Jacobs was either secretly enjoying Goldstein's discomfort or too stunned to wade in. I still like the show but Andy J reminds me of my dad. I tthink you get to a certain age and just get more and more crotchety. |

E.g. he always used to go on that Manchester Utd (was it?) didn't win the Champions League because the match went to penalties, which they won. Um, so what about Chelsea then? To me he just seems to have become needlessly nasty and is certainly a give-it-but-can't-take-it merchant. Or, maybe I'm the one who's getting old and crotchety?

Came on at 1.20 someone on the other site called it as he thought Jacobs would be upset by the article.Took the wind out of the gobby git Goldstein and there was a pause by Jacobs when it reached its height something he wouldn't have done had it been a caller.

When asked if he had ever written a story that he new was untrue by Goldstein Beasley said he had never been sued in all his life as a journalist. To wihich Goldstein replied "that doesn't mean you've never done it"that is what set Beasley off.

Sounds to me like Rob Beasley has far more mud to sling at Talksport than the other way round.

The fact Rob could not say 'No' he had never written a story that he knew was not true says it all really. to then say he's never been sued in all his life does not mean someone has not tried to sue him.

The trouble with Goldstein he doesn't realise when either a lurid suggestion of controversial question has gone too far. If Beasley ended up in the same studio as Goldstein, assuming they managed to settle their differences, he'd end up being asked to sit there in his underpants or some other twatish suggestion. |

Rob Beasley seemed to be very emotionally-charged, comparing the goodwill and friendliness that he'd received/witnessed at all the Olympic venues he'd attended with the foul language and bad behaviour he regularly encountered at football matches. He then went on to state that rather than the papers attempting to stir things up, it was in fact TalkSport that was guilty of going out of their way to drum up controversy and suggested that they'd only called him in the first place to get an argument going. Andy J took exception to this and Andy G backed him up, asking him if he'd ever written a misleading headline or a story that he knew to be untrue. This is where Beasley flew completely off the handle and accused Andy G of calling him a liar and saying (quite menacingly) things like 'we'll sort this out later'. Here the exchange ended abrupty. Hopefully it'll be available on the 'listen again' section of the TalkSport website in a few hours time. Unlike the daily (and tiresome!) Durham fake debates there was nothing at all phony about this one.. . . . |

This all started because Jacobs got irate about the Sun publishing a picture of Ennis next to one of John Terry as a contrast between football and the olympics, and asking why they had to denigrate football like that when they could have printed one of Gattlin next to Messi. Beasley then went on about the fans effing and blinding at the match yesterday which he hadn't heard in 2 weeks at the olympics, players kicking lumps out of each other and the first straight red within 40 minutes. Jacobs asked him if he'd ever effed and blinded and he said he probably had. I thought Beasley went a bot OTT at the end, can't see how "not being sued doesn't mean you didn't lie" equates to actually accusing him, when he has the instant right of reply. But as they said, great radio. Edit: Doh, could have saved my effort

Goldstein can now kill two birds with one stone.
His charity run not only raises money for a good cause, it also has the side-benefit of enabling him to out-run Rob Beasley. |

I sort of agree with Goldstein that its unfair to tag all footballers with the over-paid and pampered brush but you do have to stay professional and its true some high profile footballers including ones that play for his team Man U have let themelves and the footballing public down be it on the pitch or on Twitter.
I am sure Mr Durham will be having the same debate...then talking about how great the Premiership is later in the week. |
