Mishal Hussain. She simply did not know anything like enough about what she was presenting to do the job.

The best example of this was just after the end of the Women's triathlon (the almost dead heat). She obviously didn't have a clue what to say to Chrissie Wellington (who was with her in the studio) and was reduced to saying something like:

"At the end of the race everyone [referring to the competitors] pretty much knows what's going to happen" over a replay of the two leaders running flat out neck and neck with about 50 yards to go. (For anyone who didn't see it they continued neck and neck running side by side right to the finish and could barely be separated by a photo finish).

It really was Ortis Deley standard - incredibly embarrassing to watch.
She really was the odd link in the BBC presenting team. A perfectly competent live TV presenter but unlike the others no sports broadcasting experience at all, and the BBC didn't really need her to make up numbers either. I must say though I thought her show yesterday morning which was a more formal review of the games than in the evening was a very good watch. I also suspect the BBC might find her a regular slot on one of their flagship news bulletins too rather than just being weekend cover.

Oh, I should have mentioned that Eddie Butler's review of the games was absolutely stunning, as ever.

Just a heads up it is repeated tonight on BBC1 at 10:35.
Looks like it is the entire thing without the 'studio links' inbetween.

Definatly one to record and keep.

Rather annoyingly, Freeview EPG does not have it - lists A Question of Sport followed by a blank! I was wanting to set my PVR to record. Still waiting to see if it changes, but time is getting short.

That's weird - I've just checked a second box and the Olympic programme is listed - but my PVR doesn't have it - just switched it off and back on and it still shows Question of Sport! Hoping to get it to record manually.

Update - it has now changed and is correct! Very strange.

Does anybody know what the piece of music was that was used in the spark sequences?

Talking of music and not wanting to put a dampener on thing but didn't think Imagine was anywhere near as effective as Miracle was back in Beijing for the closing montage.

Glad though we seem to have got through the entire fortnight without "Proud". And LOL @ the latest #nbcfail - many performances cut from the closing ceremony, most notably Muse and the official song of the games, a song I hated when first released but seems much more special now we have the moments to associate it with.

Also a shame the organisers didn't have First Steps as back up for Elbow rather than immediately repeating the playlist from earlier in the evening.

Indeed it was, and it was superb.

It also gave us the opportunity of observing for the only time the BBC trademark when it comes to major sporting events, the Great Long List of Credits - which I hope everyone watching was paying attention to in order to see all the people who worked so hard to provide the wonderful coverage we've seen over the last fortnight.

..and they even had the awareness and decency not to spoil it with an end credit voiceover.

Yes, a brillant job of editing and continuity and it suited Butler's voice so well. I wasn't going to bother watching as I had 'seen everything' but it was compelling stuff and had me hooked after about 5 minutes.

I must have been the only one who was a tad dissapointed then, as I was expecting a new programme, not just a copy and paste job withput the presenters links in between.
I had already seen these during their actual broadcast, so to see them again was good, but I was just expecting a different, new programme thats all.

Hi there - newbie question.

With regards to that VT, just before the Jessica Ennis 800m on Saturday 4th August, yes I was annoyed too, but for a different reason. I'm going nuts trying to place the music used in the background to her little montage with the Eddie Butler voiceover. I was sure it was some Lalo Schifrin from one of those 70s cop films, but I've spent ages trying to track it down - no joy.

Bit of a longshot, but anyone got any ideas? Of course, unless you've recorded it or have an amazing memory, this might be a big ask.

Cheers

Searching around the only figure for running length I could find was "over 9 hours" Assuming that's correct you could reasonably guess at 2-3 hours for OC/CC highlights.( One suspects more of the OC )

So maybe 6 hours of sport? What form that will take is anyone's guess. (You've got the review piece narrated by Eddy Butler which I suppose might feature at an hour in length.)

9 hours is rather a lot for 2 DVDs.

The Opening Ceremony highlights being shown on Saturday are 2hrs 45 minutes. If they use the same edit for the DVD that would be most of one disc. The Closing Ceremony is slightly shorter.

I'd suspect an hour or so of highlights- perhaps a bit less or more than that but nothing like 6 hours.

In my defence the 9 hours came from a BBC press release

It also refers to "multi-disc" which granted could refer to a two disc set - although surely they would use terms like twin or double if that was the case? - so does seem to suggest 3+ discs.

The RRP of £30 would also seem a bit steep for a two disc 3-4 hr release. Having said that the Jubilee highlights DVD was a twin disc at £26 so what do I know?

Amazon have the DVD at £19.99 and the Blu-ray at £22.99.

I know - I ordered my copy from them

I used the RRP price as a way guessing/suggesting possible length in comparison to the RRP of other similar DVD releases eg some of The Ashes DVD sets.

It's far from a perfect method but not totally unreasonable. However it is conjecture on my part and we will find out in due course

An hour's not nearly enough if you're going to feature all the British medal winning performances in any kind of detail as well as the other major victories of the Games as well.

If it's nine hours in total, presumably that would break down as three for the opening ceremony, three for the closing and three for the highlights.

I hope the DVDs will include extras as well, perhaps like interviews with Sebastian Coe, Danny Boyle and some of the BBC team describing their recollections and personal highlights of the Games.

Hopefully the DVD's will be presenter free and concentrate on the amazing achievements of the GBR squad. Not that inane banter that was prevalent on the highlight shows and those banal segues. I trust the BBC will produce a high quality product with their experience and talent. Then, perhaps not.

Interesting interview with Roger Mosey, the BBC's Director of London 2012 at the Edingburgh Festival.
