Yeah - even ESPN have moved them outside the 4:3 safe zone now.

Yawn

That newspaper I bought this morning, with my hard earned cash, seemed to had adverts in it too.

Their sport is really good. My only gripe with the football is the scorebar when are they going to do what ESPN have done and make the scorebar 16:9 instead of being near the middle.

Your insistence that 'it isn't is equally as silly as their insistence that it is.

It's a judgement call. How are you in a better position to preside over what is and what isn't, and make that determination, than they are?

It's like when a movie or song gets called 'the greatest of all time'. That's a subjective view but it's laughable to try and argue the moniker is undeserved entirely because of your own subjective view.

'Sky think it's the best league in the world which is ridiculous, because I don't'

...without a hint of irony.

Relative though surely? I didn't get to watch live PL football that wasn't available anywhere else in my newspaper did I? I could've got the information in it from numerous other sources for free. My newspaper was much cheaper to produce, distribute, etc., than the Sky Sports stuff that I watched yesterday was.

I thought the older Sky boxes (Sky / early Sky+) offer an option to cut the edges in a 4:3 mode? Not that I've seen a 4:3 TV in working order for a long, long time unless you're in a hotel that offers TV via Sky and then forget to turn on the 4:3 mode for the old 4:3 flat-screen TVs.

Isn't the 4:3 logo protection now needed for the growing number of people (like me) who watch Sky Sports on their iPad and increase the size to fill the screen instead of keeping it at 16:9 which fills just a narrow band across the iPad screen.

Speaking of logos, one thing that does annoy me is when watching US PGA Tour golf, if the Sky logo overlaps the score put up by the host US broadcaster, they rarely move the Sky logo. It makes it very difficult to see the score.

However, on the whole, I feel that I get good value with my Sky Sports subs, especially with the number of extras available to iPad users.

So? If they only make the graphics 16:9 on the HD channels that's not a problem. If they make them 16:9 on the SD channels too then it just means those with 4:3 TVs will have to watch in letterbox mode.

I wonder if they persist because there are pubs that haven't got their TVs set up correctly (Sky box set to 4:3, stretched to 16:9 on the screen). I have no sympathy for them though, widescreen TV has been around for more than 10 years and it isn't difficult to fix (30 seconds using the remote).

Well it's stupid that iPads are 4:3 anyway. Plus again, this isn't an issue for the HD channels.

Is it? Says who? 4:3 is actually a really good ratio for a tablet computer, IMO. It's only video watching that causes any issues, for most tasks 4:3 is much superior to 16:9.

If only they can manage a decent coverage of La Liga!

Yesterday Real Madrid's game was not in HD but SD until 30th minute into to game!

Today, although they have 4-5 HD sports channels, they are showing the La Liga game online only! Sorry but in this day and age it is not good enough, if I wanted to watch the games online, I could do so free!

Until Sky sports can show respect the La Liga games they will never be the pride of British sporting excellence.

Sky needs to learn a lot from Sky Italia or Canal + when it comes to European leagues.

That's fair enough but even so, Sky Go streams can have different graphics to the TV broadcast streams, it really isn't difficult.

None of this prevents at the very least Sky Sports HD channels having 16:9 graphics.

Thats simply your opinion...... plus you're wrong.

Most watched league in the world, Most supported, oldest, Biggest money.... etc etc, I could carry on with other stuff like we have the most individual winners of the CL/EC too, but you get the picture, its very hard to argue that anywhere has a better league than the English top division.

Also I have to agree with the op, the football coverage especially is second to none.

Completely agree...was just pointing out that for iOS devices, 4:3 is quite a desirable aspect ratio. That said, rumours have it that the coming iPhone will be 16:9.

Not while live sport is taking place, unlike certain channels who used to broadcast F1 earlier this century .

If this had not been the case Sky Sports will have done their normal thing, pay a lot more than any other broadcaster are able to afford and then charge people high prices to be able to watch it.
I know that! I was pointing out the obvious flaw in the OP's argument.

No one does it quite like Sky Sports. Whether its the quality analysis from Gary Neville, the relaxed approach of Ed, Martin Brundle at his finest. It really is the home of sport in the United Kingdom and should be a proud british institution.

The adverts "Sky believe in Britain" shown before Euro 2012 and the Olympics made me have a tear to my eye and made me proud to say im British.

"Sky believe in Britain"... sporting excellence at its finest with the best coverage of any worldwide broadcaster in history.

People should really praise Rupert Murdoch.. he is the main owner of Sky.. he is Mr Sky and Mr Sky Sports.

Not really. When RM was the main owner of Sky all they had was their share of Eurosport and cricket and football on Sky channel/Sky One.

Sky Sports evolved from BSB's sport channel.

Sky (British Sky Broadcasting) is 39% owned by News Corp who hold the controlling share of the company.

Rupert Murdoch is the controlling shareholder of News Corp.

Therefore he is also the controlling shareholder in Sky (British Sky Broadcasting) as News Corp owns the controlling share.

Rupert Murdoch currently has control of Sky through News Corp Derek!

No its not. I am guessing that you are more than happy to hand your money over to Mr Murdoch for the services he provides. Quality and value all in one

Sky really is the pride of great britain. Sky believe in Britain and believe in Value

In my opinion Sky is as cheap as chips. Really should cost more than it does but the friendly people keep the costs down to help customers. Another thing Sky does, because they believe in better
