Have you been sent to Coventry James? You didn't make the mistake of admitting you were a proactive "willing" Daily Mail reader did you, by any chance?

Which are those two again?

The best one is Homer becomes a child minder after badly damaging his cruciate knee ligament (anterior), wins a good guy award (Mother Teresa Junior snaps when she losses out) and Homer finishes up on the run a bit like OJ Simpson - no relation.

Agree with your simpsons episodes some great choices. I love most episodes before season 11. Cape fear probably my favourite.

Family guy I don't know enough to remember the episode names but I really love the star wars episodes and one based on "and then there were none"

Come on Andy - I've watched the old ones till I'm blue in the face but I'm not sure which ones you are on about. Apart from oddly Mr Plow.

Just a few more words, perhaps giving a hint of why they are so great.

And running that one very close is the New Age Psychobabble one when Bret Goodman comes to town with his self improvement course, telling people to be like Bart.

With his "I do what I want" philosophy - which is so popular today ever since the 60s liberal revolution actually.

Turns out there is a bloody good reason why we should give a shit after all.

Just off the top of my head, so I've probably missed some brilliant ones. No idea what most of the episodes are called...

The baseball one with Darryl Strawberry and Mr Burns' other ringers.
The secret cult of the Stonecutters
The X-Files episode with Mulder and Scully
Bart Gets An F, although this episode is slightly sad as well
Das Bus

Family Guy isn't worthy of sharing a thread with the Simpsons

Far too many brilliant episodes (from the first ten/eleven seasons) to make a top 5. There's so much to choose from, and it also depends on what mood I'm in.

However, some of the most noteable ones I recall at the moment are:

Lemon of Troy
Homer the Vigilante
$pringfield (Mr. Burns Casino)
Whacking Day
Homers Phobia (the gay guy)
Homers Enemy - Frank Grimes - hated being called 'Grimey', but Homer called him it so much it ended up on his gravestone!
The Joy of Sect - 'outta my way, jerk ass!'

In terms of Simpsons episodes:

Bart vs. Australia - possibly my absolute favourite, genuinely a laugh in every line. Ridiculously funny.
Cape Feare - I think most agree this is one of the best, and the scene with Homer and the brownies is probably my favourite Simpsons joke.
Secrets of a Successful Marriage - This one always tickles me for some reason, because it has so many odd, exaggerated jokes - "just eat the damn oranges!"
Homerpalooza - An absolute dream for a teenage music fan.
Trash of the Titans - I love how this episode celebrates how ridiculous Springfield actually is.

Honorable mentions to:
Homer's Enemy (Frank Grimes episode)
Homer's Phobia (the "gay" episode)
Summer of 4 ft 2 (Lisa makes cool friends at a beach house)
Homer's Barbershop Quartet (Beatles parody episode)

An awful lot of new SImpsons episodes there! Are you a new fan, or do you actually prefer the new stuff to the old? Just curious, not attacking.

I love the Italian Bob too (the episode is made by the "Plagarismo" joke )

Also hilarious is when the Simpsons visit Brazil...(although I hear the Monkey problem has got MUCH worse since then )

The new episodes take a lot of flak, usually with good reason (lets not start that tired old debate here) but there are still a few gems dottered amongst them

The one with the Bagboy Strike/Monkey sanctuary is funny too ("Overtime for Bagboys? Ridiculous!")

Also have a soft spot for Treehouse of Horror with Pierce Brosnan as an automated house (YEP! A Machine!) and Brawl in the Family (*Close up shot of Homer's buttocks getting whipped* )

Yeah, there's still some laughs to be had if you look hard enough.
