Global Radio - new apps

Global have released a brand new build of their apps, at least for iOS anyway.

Much more stable and nice interface although the location services seem to have been removed so no geolocation to find local station.

Who else has updated?

I still have the gold app which has all stations on there but have not upgraded yet. Is it still the same with all the stations on one app.

All apps have links to all stations except Chill and Arrow.

Cool that's what I have then but don't see a change in the app after reinstalling it.

Apparently you can listen back to shows as well, but I am yet to find this feature.

I am using it on iPad.

It just seems to be available on all stations except South Coast and Birmingham. I know you can't listen back to local South Coast shows through Radioplayer/the website either, but if you can re-listen to the networked stuff, you'd think they'd still have them available at least?

Maybe no one in Segensworth uploads it?

Are they still using MP3 128k streams, or have they started using AAC+ yet?

I find for mobile listening on 3G the AAC+ at 48k works really well with fairly good sound quality. But MP3 at 128k on a 3G network suffers a fair bit of buffering especially in weak 3G areas.

I might be wrong, but I think the Absolute Radio app and Jazz fm app both use AAC+. I find the audio is much more stable and I also notice with AR and Jazz apps, if I do loose the 3G signal they have automatic reloading, so as soon as you have a 3G signal again the audio is restored.

Not had a chance yet to try the new Global app though.

Well I tried the new LBC app today, works ok, but if you loose 3G connection it does not appear to re-buffer automatically. I tend to use my iPhone to stream radio audio while driving around, so if the audio stream stops (for me) re-buffering automatically is very important. As I said earlier Absolute Radio and Jazz fm apps appear to re-buffer automatically if the 3G signal is lost.

I also find the TuneIn app very good too.

Except Heart are running the same promotion for the release of their (same) new app, but with the chance to win an iPhone 4S.

Except on tune in they don't.show what's playing on the global or gmg stations for some reason which is a shame. I'm having problems with my global apps on android its just saying the station name instead of what's playing and dj,s etc.
