It's driving me mad, too. Like the fact that "Tough but vulnerable, smart but sarcastic middle aged woman" always seems to go to Caroline Quentin. Who, lets face it, has been playing Dorothy form MBD since the 90's. Loved that fact that she followed Martin Clunes into getting paid holidays dressed up as documentaries.
I don't dislike her but she's so charmless and that Cornwall thing is just dismal. If I didn't already know first hand how lovely it is, she'd put me right off going there.

I'm with chitarivera, we'll have Brendan for Ms Hart.

You can count me in on that too. Miranda Hart is not remotely funny imo.

On another note, I saw the new series of BFGW mentioned on the previous page and followed the link to read IH's review. I'm so glad I did, as I now realise the girl whose name I thought was Mangle is in fact named the equally ridiculous Nangirl!

My auntie is called Nan. It's a bit confusing tbh.

How can anyone love Mrs. Brown's Boys but take exception to a fat woman repeatedly falling off a bike. I don't like either but what is the appeal of MBB? I suspect people just say they like it because they like to be contrary and think it's edgy humour for lacking post modern depth to it's offensiveness.

I am desperate to hear Ian's opinion of The Sun on Sunday...

I believe they have scooped internationally acclaimed journalist Katie Price as one of their star columnists!!

Major boobs there then!

To my knowledge Miranda doesn't consist of her falling off a bike - that happens in Call The Midwife and it's called acting. (She's actually quite good in that IMO). Miranda is just an extension and exaggeration of her own personality and the scripts, situations and performances aren't even vaguely funny and border on insulting.

MBB on the other hand is hilarious. It may be broad, end-of-the-pier, Carry On style stuff, which maybe some people find a bit crude and the man in drag thing has been used more than once. The difference is, at the heart of it there's a real warmth as it's a family effort with BO'C's wife, sister and children all playing roles in the show.

IH has said her CTM character was just a lazy extension of her sitcom character, Miranda (+hayley cropper) lol.

I can sort of see a point that at least MBB is honest about how slapstick it is. Same as You Been Framed is falling off bikes with the same amount of pretension and depth.

I really don't get what you are saying about MBB being warm and loving in any way or why you would need to justify it. Maybe he should have employed people who could do jokes or something rather than his family... but yeah at least they are making an effort, rather like a school play; where you aren't even allowed to heckle either
I see what you are saying though, thanks.

Chummy was a real person and presumably the casting director saw something in MH that would fit the part, so what Hyland's trying to say I'm not entirely sure.

I don't need to justify anything about MBB, I just see something in it that you obviously don't. I'm not being paid to big it up, and I'm not related to Mr O'Carroll or his family.

No need for the rolling eyes either.

I wasn't rolling them for you, I was bemoaning the fact that you can't heckle school plays. Even though they are shit.

I mean also, that there doesn't need to be any further levels to MBB really, but I see what you mean.

so no need for the winks! (we could do this all day)

I haven't bought the Sun on Sunday - but I hear that not all the NOTW columnists have got a job on the 'new' paper.

Glad Ian found a job elsewhere then.

This week's fabulous Ian column in The Mail On Sunday...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/mosl...ts-misses.html

And no, Ian, I don't wish I was here [Benidorm.]
I've seen the trailers.
And although sometimes I think being a tv critic is a fun job, I'd hate to have to watch that for work. I feel sorry for you sometimes.

And I agree about the Homeland pilot Ep.
I thought it was excellent.
Even if I did spend most of the episode trying to work out what else I've seen the bloke in the beard and glasses in and what his name is. [Mandy Patinkin. Chicago Hope]

And Damian Lewis does a great American accent.
Really looking forward to tonight's Ep and your review next week.

Loved your description of Blur at the Shi..,
er, I mean Brits, by the way.

SOS certainly benefits Mr Murdoch, extend the hours of the current staff of The Sun and employ a few part-timers.

If Ian decides to have a night off from watching a certain celeb show then maybe he can crib off Lexi (i'm sure a few bottles of wine would be accepted as payment). She has taken one for the team and is watching Peter Andre's

I had to let him go as he was developing Stockholm Syndrome and in the run-up to my wedding (to Mr Loz, not Ian...!!) I was getting a bit worried about how he would take the news, had to break it to him very gently.

Yes - he also put that he assumed John Terry was doing his column for him..

So he's still got his sense of humour after all the trauma.

He's very prolific on twitter

Why does Ian dislike Cheryl Cole so much? Whenever she does something, he always makes a dig or snidey comment on Twitter. He has also called her 'Biffa' on a number of occasions.

Perhaps, if you are lucky, he might answer you.

I was interested to see what Ian would say about the dire tripe that was the x-factor episode last night. I am sure this series will be haemorrhaging viewers by the week.

Also has he commented on the brilliance of The Accused.
