Frankly, all this resitting on top of the workload for AS in Year 12 will put too much pressure on her. Since when was 6A* and 6A a bad thing - those grades are superb? Her dad demands perfection from her, but perfection isn't achievable as we're all human after all. Frankly, A-Levels are more important IMO. You can't go through life having 100% in everything and getting top marks and being the best all the time. It's almost as if her grades are being treated like a fail. Time for her dad to get a big reality check then.

Wow. GCSE's are a pathway to A Level and L3 BTEC's. You only need 5A*-C to enrol onto these courses. There is no need to have like 12A*'s.

That's pretty much what I thought (and how I remember it).

Has someone explained to him that the only purpose of GCSEs is so that you can take A levels? What is really required in this situation is for a teacher to have a chat with him to explain that your cousin retaking her GCSEs will be a supreme waste of time, and in fact will take up time that she should be using to study for her A levels, which really will matter.

Quite right! I agree with his actions. Little strumpet was obviously high on drugs and probably dogging in the local park instead of studying. We need more fathers like this!

What point is there to A* grades anyway? We didn't have such a grade when I took my exams.

I wouldn't wish a child to run away, however her father should be careful how far he pushes and bullies as that is one reason a child may run away from home.

Poor girl - those results are brilliant - he is an @r$eh01e! I doubt if any school/sixth form would allow her to re-sit with such amazing grades.

On the other side of the coin, my son got an A instead of an A* in maths, and now won't be allowed to sit further maths A'Level and is really disappointed. His dad can't understand why he's bothered

A school will not allow a pupil with a A result in GCSE to sit a Maths A level ? what are they over run with geniuses ?

He will be allowed to sit A'Level Maths, but he wanted to sit A'Level Further Maths as well. He won't be allowed to do Further Maths now.

Of course this @r$eh01e wouldn't have had anything to do with his daughters academic success would he.

He may have he may not have, but no normal parent would be angry at 6 A's and 6 A*s , his reaction is a disgraceful way for a parent to behave and the sign of an overbearing controlling bully.

I presume she sat the exams herself.

It's brilliant to be a supportive parent, but being overly critical (which he definitely is being) can be extremely damaging. What's the point in supporting her, if he can't congratulate her when she succeeds? And she has been successful - he just needs to recognise it.

I am guessing he doesn't exist or else this didn't happen. But that is just my guess.

Oh my god! My mum and dad were ecstatic with my 3 Cs! Your uncle is a tool.
We had a swat in our year who got all A* except one A. She was crying her eyes out, what a tw@!

haven't read through all the posts so apologies if this has been asked before... what qualifications etc does your uncle have and what achievements has he worked for in life?

I feel for her...I'd love to hear she eventually gets to Uni away from his pressure.

I know if I was you, I'd tear his f***** head off, verbally.

The man is a cold, bullying control freak of the first order, and he needs challenging and bringing down.

Not that it matters anymore, my GCSEs aren't even on my CV, there is no point, only good for moving onto A'levels.
I got all A grades, but the first thing my dad said to me was 'why no A*'s?'

My parents are the exactly the same, & ultimately it does work at motivating children. Tiger Mom stylee.

If I got 98% it would be "what happened to the other 2%?"

It's A level grades that universities are interested in. Good GCSEs don't always translate into good A levels.

My father was exactly the same and it didn't motivate me at all. It totally demoralised me as I knew that I could never do well enough to get his praise.
