Well I just had a look to double check. Wasn't when registering the box but actually activating the channels.

Here are the steps to follow:

Press the 'Interactive' button
Go to 'Sky Active' and press 'Select'
Go to 'My Sky account' and press 'Select'
Go to 'Activate self set-up' and press 'Select'
When the page has loaded don't instinctively press 'Select' as the big font in the middle suggest, but look in the lower left hand corner and it should say 'Download latest software', press the red button as indicated next to it and there you go.

Well well, I've never seen that option mentioned before.
As I said, I'm not going to try it as I don't want to lose the beta software I've got on my box!

I have the Amstrad 890, How Long is a piece of string?

Well that's very boring!
It would have been nice if it actually triggered the forced download sequence on the box, after giving suitable warnings of course!

That's fair enough! The info is there for anyone struggling to do the force update though

Sorry as i'm sure it's been mentioned a billion times but I don't really keep up with the thread but what's different in the new beta software you have other than the undelete feature?

The undelete feature is the main addition. Other than that it's just bug fixes and cosmetic changes, such as a fancier looking playback indicator and the renaming of "Anytime" to "On Demand" in the menus.

Samsung power off

on a Samsung box can you turn the box off by holding the power button for 10 secs cos on both of my Samsung boxes it just stays in standby and does power down the box

No, the "deep standby" function was only added to the latest Sky/Amstrad branded boxes.

And also the 500gb Samsung boxes. The only difference being the Amstrad/Sky boxes can be put into deep standby from the remote control too

Why does everyone keep going on about the undelete function, IIRC it used to be on the epg years ago. I and others moand then about it being removed / replaced with the keep fuction or somthing like that, it was a long time ago tho(or coming back in my case), and i'm glad its back tho as with the samsung boxes its very easy to delete the wrong thing....

The EPG has never had undelete, it used to have an Are you sure prompt when you pressed yellow (delete), this was removed some years back.

I have had Sky since the late 80's and have never seen undelete on any of the boxes Sky supply.

The change to the tv guide where the programming doesn't keep up with the time on long button presses is really starting to do my head in.

It really is a poor design feature.

I am not so sure it is a design feature at all, doubt software would be developed purposely where the screen refesh cant keep up with the keystrokes. Also how this acts varies from box to box so is clearly a hardware/software fault rather then by design.
