Not true. My sil is a qualified dietician working for the nhs and she advises 1800 to 2000 for maintenance for someone with an averagely active lifestyle and 1200 to 1500 for weight loss. No adult should ever be eating less than 1200 a day for any period of time. That's for women. Men need aprox 300 more per day

I remember last year I came across, by chance, the programme she did on Living about losing weight - can't remember the name.

What stuck in my mind was seeing the torture she was put through by the personal trainer a magazine (that she was gonna do a photo shoot in) paid for, in order to get the last half a stone, I think it was, off, before she DID the photo shoot.
Normally you'd only see the finished version in the magazine (which I vaguely remember seeing at the time) but this was showing how she got there.

Anyway, what probably sums all this up is that, as I say, she was put through torture to get to this target weight, she admitted she hated every minute of it, yet in the photo spread in the magazine she was probably all smiles saying 'this is the real me'! lol

I remember being surprised when I first saw her years after Steps, looking a lot bigger than she had in Steps cos I assumed she was naturally skinny like the other two, not that she'd been starving herself to stay that shape.
She obviously likes her foods, so I don't blame her saying she's had enough of dieting.
She's not exactly enormous in the picture.

It was explained to me they were maximum guidelines.

Put it this way, I'm well until 5ft and I would definitely put weight eating that many calories a day. Believe me, I have done and then some....!

I watched a tiny bit of her show, and it seemed as though she didn't actually want to lose weight. Complaining about how hard it is to diet, and then getting a curry and making her kids a microwave meal. It really annoys me when people complain that having a healthy diet is difficult - you can make a healthy, and tasty meal in 15 minutes! Also when she was doing a dance class, and gave up straight away. it you want to lose weight you need to put some effort in and expect it to be difficult!

I have to agree with Honestweegie, dieting is not a solution, actually changing your eating habits permanently and getting regular exercise is. Losing weight is not a problem for anyone, keeping it off is. Changing your ways for six weeks to two months at a time to lose a couple of stone is a temporary fix, committing to new ways of living and consuming food to maintain a healthy way of life is the only real long term fix. I just have to wonder what sort of example she is setting for her kids by being so indecisive and constantly taking and making money by exploiting her fluctuating weight for profit as much as I wonder that about Kerry Katona. Making a living off of going from size 18 to size 10 year in and year out for the purposes of profit just seems unhealthy in all applicable senses.

Slightly OT but for me (5ft 1in and 9st 8lbs when I was "heavy") I started on 1300 cals per day and then dropped to 1200 cals per day after losing half a stone.

I maintained on about 1460 cals. That was at 8st though!

I ate more on days I exercised. So If I burned 200 calories I'd actually aim to eat 1400 cals per day (or 1600 cals when I was maintaining!)

It is all dependant on your height / weight but you should never be advised by any professional [dietician or Dr] to drop below 1200 calories

I lost nine stone on a diet of 810 calories. I'm not going to get into the rights and wrongs of it - I had a lot to lose and had tried every other way. I know my maintaining weight is likely to be around 1200 to 1300 a day. Not there yet as I put a bit back on, thanks to a course of steroids, that I've been battling to get off since. Exercise is limited as I have MS.

And you have four inches on me!
