To be honest I do worry about Nintendo's ability to compete in this area, especially in this age of £1 games on smart phones. We can talk all day about the quality of Nintendo titles, but when the prices are so high compared, it's hard to see how they can win people over. It's not like kids don't have these phones nowadays.
Or am I off topic?

For now though I don't think Nintendo need to be worried, because at the minute 95% of app games are rubbish. There are so many apps where you have to run a farm, or look after some generic cartoon animal, and many have really lazy excuses in them to make you buy extra stuff with real world money. When it comes to apps everyones doing it, which tells me that soon you're going to have a crash whereby too many people releasing a substandard product will cause many to close down. Yes Nintendo games are substantially more expensive but you know you're getting quality, as Stella Artois ads used to say it's 'reassuringly expensive'. Its also worth noticing that the 3DS has sold well so that would stifle any fears. But I do think there are signs of long term concern for Nintendo as we have seen quite sophisticated app games arrive. Look at Infinity Blade 2, CSR Racing, and the conversions of GTA 3 and GTA Chinatown Wars. These are proper games sold for not much money. If more meatier games come out on iPhone/Android at a low pricepoint with similar/better spec...then it may be an issue. As long as there is a quantity over quality mentality with apps Nintendo are ok. |

I think that price is insane for a 2D Mario platformer. It's almost like Nintendo haven't learned anything from the 3DS launch. I can't say I'm happy with Nintendo atm, they have this terrible habit of coming and going, I'll always love them because they make the best videogames, but seriously Nintendo pull your finger out of your backside and commit to a Wii U price, announce at least ONE exciting title for it, even if it's a year away, it's better than nothing. Give us the updated Nintendo Network, it should of been in place well before you start putting full priced games on the eStore and slash your ridiculous prices. All 3DS games should be £25 RRP imho. |

No I worry too. They seem to be sleepwalking at the moment. I can see me getting an Xbox 360 for Christmas rather than a WiiU. And I completely agree. £39 for a portable Nintendo game these days is suicide. I don't believe there's an audience there for that any more at those prices. £20-25 is much more realistic. I think the WiiU ought to see some lower launch prices too. £40-60 a game is so N64. Time for a change I think. |

That said I don't have too much issue with the price of retail games as I find a lot of them are worth it, if they are too cheap I tend to buy too many and would actually rather pay more money and enjoy a game 100% and be less tempted to keep consuming which is obviously made all too easy these days. That was a plus point about the N64 days imo, I used to rinse the games for all they were worth, now I have too much backlog and I don't like it. That's probably just a personal thing though, arguing against cheaper games does sound a bit weird I'll happily admit, but there is some logic in there, somewhere. |

You tell Nintendo to pull its finger out of its arse, and then come out with this crap?
Can you tell me WHY games should only cost 25 quid? Come on, give me a list of reasons why 25 quid is enough to cover development, licensing, marketing, tax, cost of goods and oh, profit for all parties involved. Let's not forget about that last little bit. So as a rough guide, the unit cost of a 3DS cart for a retailer is somewhere around 10 to 15 quid. And that price is set by the publisher. Now, HMV are charging 35 quid for Super Mario 2 on the 3DS, Given that Nintendo doesn't have to pay the platform license fee, you can bet that the cost of goods is a dammed sight lower than any other punlisher, and so is the unit cost. But the retailer is still demanding top whack for the game. So who's at fault for the high cost of a 3DS game? Nintendo? I don't think so. |

Hey, I never said that. I just suggested that prices should be more fair, I don't care for the politics or who is behind the pricing, at the end of the day anytime over £30 is too much for me. I have over 15 3DS games that I bought at full price so I have a right to suggest that portable games are overpriced.

I know of at least five 3DS titles that use art assets directly from the PS3 and 360 versions of the games. So all of the cost in terms art is the same as those version, with some additional cost in reducing a few things here and there. And as for engineering, these games had a massive team making sure the game performed as well as the home console versions. Around 20 people, if I remember rightly. The same goes for voice acting, motion capture, testing and because marketing involved all versions of the game, it was a fair whack, especially for such a high profile set of titles. I understand that you want something for as little money as possible. Everybody does. But saying a "hand helkd title doesn't cost much to develop" is simply not true these days, and to be honest, hasn't been for the last six years. If you want cheap titles, then all you'll get now, are 120 card games in one cart from a bunch of incompetent programmers based in former soviet block country, earning less than an unskilled builders laboror. I've seen the size of teams working on a lot of 3DS titles. Have you? If not, how can you honestly sit there and tell me that "it's cheap to develop a 3DS game"? |

I've already expressed how I'm not one of these gamers who just want things as cheap as possible, I'm perfectly happy to pay up to £30 for a 3DS game that I want, is that ok with you? Overstepping the £30 barrier is too much for me, certainly for a handheld game. All I suggested was that I would like to see all 3DS games at a price point of £25 in the shops, since pretty much all the games I have bought has cost me the same as any Xbox 360 game has on release day. You can jump down my throat for daring to suggest such a radical move as lowering prices on 3DS software in an effort to attract sales in a market that is now dominated by smartphone budget titles but I'll tell you one thing, I'm not alone in thinking that £40 for a digital copy of NSMB2 is a f*****g joke. I woudln't pay £35 for it in the shops either. |
