Just watched this delightful, entertaining thriller last night and I now feel nostalgic. The movie came out when I was a mere 3 year old and after being brought to watch it at the cinema with my parents it had a strong effect on me. The dinosaurs terrified me as a child, the one scene sticking in my head being the raptors hunting for the children in the kitchen. I have to say no dinosaur movie has managed to top this film. The actors are magnificent, the storyline is flawless and the dinosaurs were a new generation of special effects in film. The first scene where we see the long necked dinosaurs with the tear-jerking musical composition in the background remain with me forever, leading to the famous quote "Welcome to Jurassic Park"

SFX still hold up today. Casting is perfect. Characters are awesome.

I remember being taken to the cinema to see this (I was 10) and having all the toys bought for me that Christmas.

It still stands up today, the effects are still impressive and it has the perfect mix of action, suspense and comedy. I enjoyed the sequels to a lesser extent, and I'm looking forward to the fourth installment.

My nephew who is 4 is a huge JP fan so when I bought the Blu box set I passed my DVDs onto him.

I think it's a great film.

Though I was a lot older than you mich_izzle when I first saw it, the kitchen scene was scarey.

I love the Jeff Goldblum line in the sequel.

Love this film. Easily in my top 5. Have read the book since and although there are huge changes the film stands out on its own.

The SFX still look great today. The balance of CGI and real effects is well done. Still get goosebumps when I see the water ripple.

I would love if (and that's a big if) they did a 4th one to get characters back from the first three films. Julianne Moore would probably say no but everyone one else who survived. Do people even remember Vince Vaughn was in The Lost World for example?

Moore and Vaughn's characters were awful. They basically caused most of the deaths in "The Lost World", including one of their own guys

Brilliant movie. I remember after I first saw it as a child, I couldn't sleep that night, I was terrified of being attacked by a dinosaur in my room (ah to be young and stupid again ). Luckily one of my walls was mirrored wardrobes so I could face them and be able to see in front and behind my bed at the same time . I went through the same thing after Jaws and Alien. Nothing my parents could say would convince me I was safe from dinosaur/great white shark/alien attack those nights

Jaws scared the living sh!t out of me, even scared to go to bathroom after watching that.

Saw Jurassic Park when I was older so it didn't scare me one bit but I do wonder if it would have had the same Jaws effect on me if I watched it when I was a kid.

Still cant get past the plot hole of having the power switch in a bunker on the other side of the raptor paddock (as for raptors, recent research suggests they were feathered and far smaller than their Hollywood cousins) thus meaning humans had to go through the paddock to switch the power back on. I suppose putting the power bunker underneath the cafeteria for instance would have been stupid in the extreme so I'll shut up.

It would also have helped if the control/visitors centre was close to the docks, so if anything went wrong, they could escape easily, rather than having to drive through the entire park.

Just imagine how good it might have been if Spielberg wasn't such a family oriented Director. Imagine if James Cameron made it. Great at the time - the T Rex arrival was amazing but after all these years the obvious dialogue explaining everything and the limited story start to make it a little dull.

Still one of my favourites. It's amazing to think that this film is almost 20 years old. The CGI effects are still outstanding and much better than in some more recent films.

Fabulous film, being a huge Michael Crichton fan i'd read the book before seeing the film and wondered how it would translate to a family orientated blockbuster. Needless to say Spielberg produced a groundbreaking cinematic experience, the first sight of the dinosaurs is still my biggest WOW moment after years of cinema going.

On the contrary, going to a cupboard in the next room to turn the power back on doesnt do much for the drama.

I'd say it's more dramatic licence that the bunkers were situated where they were. It's an action adventure film afterall.

I've got the blu-ray anyways... So that'll suit me fine. Watching it the way it was originally intended.

Its been known for years that Raptors were roughly the size of Chickens or Turkeys and possibly had feathers... But from what I understand, the Raptors were based more on Deinonychus which was a larger relative.. Yes I am that much of a geek! lol.. I was 9 when the film came out and it is still one of my most favourite films ever

I agree with your comment about the special effects.
Some people are saying that the effects still hold up today. I say that's underselling them as I think they're superior to most effects today as they appear to blend in rather naturally.

The raptors in the kitchen scene is one of the best uses of special effects I've ever seen in any film.
Probably one of the most memorable set piece scenes in recent film history.

The film itself? Pretty good. I've seen many films I'd say were much better. But as entertainment fare it's a good watch on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

It's the set pieces and the way in which special effects are used though which I think raise this film far above most of the special effects action films of even today.

Jurassic Park can get away with scientific inaccuracy in the appearance of dinosaurs since it's established in the book and film series that the dinosaurs are basically imperfect hybridised reconstructions rather than exact replicas of real ones.

Oh absolutely right there, but I find it does detract from the film somewhat that nobody at all during the planning stage of the park, or indeed those actually in the film thought , stupid bloody place to put a power switch.

Too fussy that's my problem.
