My dad has just had infinity installed he had been told that over. Period of day the speed will increase to 38mp at the moment it gets to approx 27mbs no more so the question is why does it take days to get to speed? Or is this complete crap?

I found the speed did vary for the first few days ranging from 39mbs down to 25mbs. It is advisable to do any speed tests using ethernet connection rather than wireless and to test at various times of the day .In addition try a few different speed testers too, because they can vary considerably.
I find , now on Infinity2, with a promise of a doubling of the speed, my wireless speed has increased to 48mbs but with ethernet shows regular readings of 65-75mbs.

My understanding is that there is is no settleing period. DLM will continue to alter the speed.

Avoid rebooting the BTOR modem and run speed tests in a wired state directly to the BTOR modem while in Safe mode - networking.

Unfortinately BTOR could never fix or find the reason on my lie as to why DLM dropped the speed to 7 mbps. Hopefully your father will have a better experience.

I had infinity installed on Tuesday, the engineer tested the line from the master socket and said his machine was reading 80mbps down and 20mbps up.
I've had different results depending on what device I do the speedtest on:
Via a wired conection using a laptop I get 75mbps down and 18mbps up.
Via wireless using the laptop I get around 50mbps down and 15mbps up.
Via iPhone it averages at around 10mbps down and 12mbps up
Via Wii I get 4.10mbps down and 0.53mbps up.

The lowest download speed I have had is just over 50mb and the highest download speed I have had is just over 74mb. My upload speeds are between 11.4mb and 15.2mb.

I turn the modem on and off whenever i like, if i need the plug or i am going away etc. and its never effected the speed whatsoever (74.5Mbit down 17.5Mbit up), last Christmas we had a series of power cuts and the modem was going on and off in pretty rapid succession and nothing untoward happened.

There is this mass hysteria that turning off modems and routers will invoke Beelzebub to come and knacker your connection up but it is cobblers, the amount of times you would need to do it in a 60 minute period for it to be seen as a line fault is way above what anyone would actually do.

I had infinity installed 3weeks ago.the enginer told me to give it a 14 day settling period.he also told me to use it as much as possible during this time.i now have speeds of 59/10 which is great.
And yes resetting your router or unplugging it constantly over short periods of time does drop the speed as the exchange thinks you have a line fault and reduces the speed to try to settle the lIne
