Doomsday Preppers

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2069270/

About the Show

"Doomsday Preppers explores the lives of otherwise ordinary Americans who are preparing for the end of the world as we know it. Unique in their beliefs, motivations, and strategies, preppers will go to whatever lengths they can to make sure they are prepared for any of life’s uncertainties. And with our expert’s assessment, they will find out their chances of survival if their worst fears become a reality."

Has anyone else seen this it's mad. I don't believe any of their doomsday predictions will happen but it's still worth watching.

The more worrying prospect could be "How many of them are right?"

I watched this on the American channel. There's a lot of right wing nutters, but they also have quite a few liberal hippy types.

One of the old hippies bought out of a government nuclear shelter and plans to hold a doomsday pow wow with several spiritualist gurus.

There was also a 20 something young lady who planned to hitchhike across the city in tank top and short shorts when anarchy broke out...

That Guy in the Desert had a good set up in Texas, until he metioned a 'Shift in the Continents' whatever that is, why did no one in the programme challenge him on this ludicrous proposition that has absolutly no basis in scientific fact?

Regardless of whether these guys are nutters (sigh, I can't tape this, too many other things taping), the people who prepare nothing are even bigger nutters. To just assume everything will be perfect and nothing bad can ever happen is some uber high level of false sense of security. Everyone should have the basic tools for survival to last them at least a months.

I love this show. Most of them seem be just obsessives that feel the need to collect lots of food, just like hoarders.

I think some of them would eat the food within a week of the disaster though

ahh think you on to something there they maybe they are just using the doomsday thing to hide their hoarding addiction.

I've just seen half of one episode so far. The magnetic poles shifting could happen, but even by the figures in the programme, it's not likely to happen next year, or even in next millennium. And if it does happen, it'll just be the iron in Earth's core sloshing around; it won't affect how our continents are laid out. I think it will be a non-event.

Apart from that he had a good setup. I quite envy his fort made from shipping containers. I hope he has a secret escape tunnel.

The other guy I saw was worried about earthquakes in LA. That's gonna happen. There are two tectonic plates moving in different directions, and something will have to give, and it will probably be within a decade or two. I quite admire his position, too, although if he gets a broken leg or something he could be screwed. That said, in his "update" section it seemed clear he was holding a substantial part of his planning secret from the camera, and that his approach involved far more about building relationships than the going solo emphasised in the main segment.

I'm a bit of a prepper myself, in an armchair kind of way. So far I've been quite impressed by this.

What is most scary is the amount of guns and ammo some of these nutters have!

^It's all about bulk. If the SHTF, it's not like it's going to be easily buyable or easy to make. When the hordes come to steal your last crumbs of food and murder you and your family at the same time, you'll be glad you had the ammo. Now if only us brits had something to FIRE the damn ammo...

(Yes, there's OVER-DOING- IT, but there's also UNDER-DOING-IT).

Watched this yesterday and it seems like some of the British preppers are almost as "out there" as the American ones

Having watched the series and the one-off it occurs to me that some of the preppers are actually looking forward to the disasters happening

I was in Las Vegas a couple months back and we were coming back from a gun range, and the driver who was taking us back to the hotel pointed out the zombie store which sells everything in case of a zombie attack.
