Anyhow, my whole view on this Alexandra Burke is that she hasn't got anything that stands out that makes people think 'oh, she's different'. There are loads of artists just like her who are better and more popular than her, such as Rita Ora, Beyonce, Rihanna. I'm not hating on Alex B but she should have released an album that had at least a bit of originality instead of the same old dancey stuff. Cher Lloyd, on the other hand, who seems to have been dragged into this debate, has something different about her that makes her stand out and catch people's attention. Although her songs aren't brilliant, she is selling music and being successful because she has star quality and there isn't really anyone else around now currently like her. |

I'd say with the right song, the right promotion and with the right amount of effort I think she can pull it off.

It's all well and good when you have the budget. When Alex did she was selling a hell of a lot more than Rita. I'll be interested to see how she does with her second album, because her attempts at cracking the US market even with Jay-Z's support haven't gone well. I don't think she's relevant at all compared with Alexandra.

Rita is just a fad at the moment. She doesn't really have any real singing and/or songwriting talent like Leona, Alex, Jessie, Emeli or Adele do to sustain a long career....she sounds different in every song, and when you strip back the production, she really is unremarkable, whereas those other 5 girls I mentioned shine in that respect....

Rita Ora has stans??!
![]() Anyway, best of luck to Alex with her US album. I hope the Americans appreciate her more than her home nation. |

And I think you should all calm down. Rita Ora has three UK number 1s under her belt in ONE YEAR and a number 1 debut album. She isn't going anywhere for a long time, and where is Alexandra in the charts? Unfortunately she flopped. Good luck to her in America but she needs a miracle to be taken seriously as an artist again

Exactly. Plus Alex's #1s sold way more and had more impact than Rita's tracks have. Start Without You lasted for 2 weeks and stopped Katy Perry from getting a #1, whereas Rita's songs just fell down the charts...

I really can't see the point in comparing a female act who's selling now to one who's stop selling.
In two years time how many of the ones mentioned in this thread will still be selling anyway? Why don't you just enjoy your favourites and hope they can stick around and stay popular. You're only as good as your fans will make you, so be nice to them. |
