We are still missing the commentary and some other features. Comic book fans, and Whedon fans are pretty hardcore, and want as many extras as they can get.

Marvel UK have responded and said that there has been a mix up with the cut released in this country. Apparently some countries needed the violence trimmed down, but this cut has inadvertantly made its way into other regions.
Don't think anything will be done about it though.

As I understand it, that's Marvel's Facebook page and it's Marvel who are apologising, not Disney.

However, by default that means that Disney's statement of a few days ago was indeed incorrect (as we all knew), ie the UK DID get a cinematic release WITH the spear tip.

I wanted the steelbook and had it pre ordered for ages before all this, so just decided I still wanted it but hoping the American blu-ray comes down in price and once it does I'll get it and add the disc to my steelbook too if it's officially confirmed that it's the unedited one.

Not bothered about extras, just that it's not the same as in the cinema.

It's really not worth buying it again just for the spear tip scene, the scene lasts all of a second. Like i said the other day, if i hadn't read about it being altered i probably wouldn't have even noticed that it was missing in the first place, it's honestly barely noticeable, and definitely not worth the cost of buying it again (imo).

It's not the region coding that would be the issue regarding the legality, it's the fact that it is illegal to sell unclassified video material in the UK.

Any VHS/DVD/BD sold from within the UK must have been classified by the BBFC.

It is perfectly legal to import unclassified videos (so long as they don't contain anything that would be prohibited by the BBFC) but selling them from within the UK is illegal.

So the question is, is what Blubastard is doing classed as selling from within the UK, or are they simply being "re-shipped"?


Whatever the answer, though, I don't care... Any UK sales lost are solely the fault of Disney UK.

I personally don't see what the fuss is all about (about the spear scene) but it does annoy me that for some reason the UK version doesn't have the gag reel (and other extras).

That said, the film is so awesome and the gag reel is readily available on the internet, so I don't care too much. There are worst things in life.

The UK Blu Ray has the gag reel, it's worth it just for the outtake of Thor juggling his hammer in slow motion! Absolutely hilarious

Seriously though, i've just had a look at the US Blu Ray and apart from the “Assembling the Ultimate Team” featurette and a Soundgarden music video it's the same as ours (not counting the commentary, i'll get to that in a minute). While i agree that there's no excuse for these short features to be excluded from our release, i also think that people are maybe going a bit overboard here...

As i've said before, i can understand people being annoyed about the absence of the Joss Whedon commentary, but we haven't been wallet raped like some people are making out, at least in my opinion. And it seems that the US and UK DVD are the same barring the “Assembling the Ultimate Team” featurette, but this is hardly the first time that the Blu Ray contains more extras than the DVD, it seems to be standard practice these days.

I mean this is nothing compared to Twentieth Century Fox's Avatar releases whereby they released a bare bones theatrical edition (with no extras to "maximise the picture quality"...*cough* bullshit *cough*), then release the Extended Collectors Edition with all the extras witheld from the prior release a few months later, THEN the 3D Special Edition. And no doubt there will be another edition released just in time for Avatar 2...

The Video Recordings Act 1964 (recently renew/reinstated due to issues with it's first implementation) makes it illegal to sell unclassified material unless the material or sale is exempt. I was unable to find what constituted an exempt sale, so I'd assume it's exceptional circumstances (of which missing bonus features and an "accidental" cut does not count).

As previous posters have said this is all very OTT considering it's just a few videos that will be on YouTube a few hours after release, and commentary, which some people might like, but I've never found the time to re-watch anything with commentary, so it doesn't bother me.

The home release should be the same as the theatrical release, yet Disney UK "accidentally" gave us a censored version created for another country (I'd bet Germany, they have "issues" with films & videogames!).

Them, after having "accidentally" given us the wrong version (which coincidentally would have saved it the cost of using a different master for the UK) it just hoped that no one would notice... And once people *did* notice, what did Disney UK do?

It bullshitted us. Instead of admitting to its "accident", it falsely claimed that the "spear tip" was never seen in the UK, that the UK theatrical version was exactly the same as the censored home version, and that the "spear tip" would have been "inappropriate" for a 12 certificate in the UK.

This is despite the fact that the "spear tip" was in the UK theatrical version (rated 12A), a fact confirmed not just by all the fans who have cried foul over this but also by the BBFC itself, which specifically mentioned the "spear tip" and even said that the image "serves an important narrative purpose". So much for the home version being identical, and so much for the "spear tip" being "inappropriate"...

It was only after Disney UK was called on its BS that it then belatedly admitted to the "accident" and "apologised".

Which copy did you get? The gag real is on the 3d version.

Frankly people seem to be worrying far too much that we did not see the spear come through - there are better things to worry about.
