Just arrived home from a half-day work shift. 10 minutes later there's a knock on the door.
It's only my Bond 50 boxset.
Wow!!!!!

That's great! Enjoy it.
My Amazon pre-order hasn't shipped yet. Should come Monday hopefully. I've been on a Bond monatorium since I ordered it on Jan 11th!

PS Don't go on the AVS forums - they are already nitpicking and bitching over some crappy screen shots. Can't these people just sit and enjoy a movie without looking for every perceivable flaw?

I've already seen those nit picks.
Unfortunately I'm on night shifts tonight and Saturday so no viewing until Sunday.
I've been on a self-imposed Bond ban for nearly three years as I knew in the back of my mind this boxset would happen one day.

Those free art cards will probably cost you about 15 quid!

But the HMV price of £100, is £20 more than the Amazon price, so in effect, they are £20.

I am surprised there has not been more offers to be honest.

The boxset is excellent value, even at £100, but HMV are the only retailer who seem to be offering anything else.

I did think about the card set, but I've got Bond books and poster books going back nearly 40 years.

How is it looking
Never ordered it on line, as i did not want to be troubled with delivery & damage.
Got £25 worth of vouchers from Tesco's, that's where i will be getting mines, after checking packaging.

just been browsing through the comments on the bluray.com forums. seems like goldeneye and tomorrow never dies haven't come out too well. fine with me as i would have sold them if they were individually cased blurays

complaints about a few seconds of camera shaking missing from view to a kill. frankly who cares?! the film's a dud and it's such a trivial issue. one guy said he'd rather watch the vhs copy than miss the camera shake

my favourite is the complaint that some of the pictures on the box pages have been flipped so that roger moore's hair is parted on the wrong side god, some people need to get a life

Mine arrived from Play.com this morning. No damage as packed in a stout outer box. Let the viewing commence!

So is this just a money making DVD dump onto blu ray or has there been any real work been put into the films in the same way the first 2 alien movies were remastered.

Have heard the packaging is dreadful with the blu rays stored in cheap cardboard sleeves rather then proper blu ray cases so was wondering if its really worth the money.

I quite like the packaging...it's put together like two hardback large books, volumes if you will. Artwork is very good, and I think they look very nice indeed.

OK, the films do sit inside cardboard inserts inside, but they seem fairly secure to me.

The overall packaging is great.
Had you noticed the texture of the surface the discs sit? It's got a soft sheen to it so its not just straight cardboard.

I love the whole thing.

So what are the transfers like, has any effort been put into it or is it just a DVD dump on blu ray.

It's fair to say he quality is variable...I have not watched the earlier movies (started with Diamonds Are Forever), mainly the later ones and the ones not on blu ray previously.

I would certainly not say they are DVD transfers, the quality is pretty good, but I find the same inherent issues as I did with most of the previous Bond blu rays, namely that as far as the sound is concerned they seem to have spent a lot of time remastering the music score, but in most of the films surround action is not that pronounced.

There were some surprising exceptions, Octopussy for example. Picture looked very good, and a lot of use of surround.Tomorrow Never Dies looked and sounded pretty good too.

But the one I was always very disappointed in sound-wise was Moonraker. Considering the sci-fi element, the shuttles, space battles etc I really expected more of a kick from the DTS, but it just isn't there.

So these seem to be primarily the same blu rays already available (save for those debuting for the first time),and though they are much better than the DVD versions, they are far from perfect.

Oh, and the extra bonus disc? Dreadful...just a few odd 2 - 3 minute compilations on gadgets, girls, guns etc (which I am sure has been on some of the DVD's before anyay) , a few skyfall blogs and a couple of brief interview snippets with all of the Bond actors, and even that is old archive footage .

got round to trying out a few of the discs. the reports that are around have been spot on with covering the issues.

the ones that look good look very good indeed. licence to kill has always been a favourite of mine, so i'm glad that is top quality after the disappointing ultimate edition dvd.

goldfinger looks fabulous, as does the spy who loved me, two more of my favourites

they've slightly overdone the booming on the living daylights soundtrack and it looks a bit dark but it's perfectly watchable

goldeneye looks odd, artifically brightened and smoothed over. i've never been keen on it so i'm not fussed but it's the weakest transfer of the lot, though i haven't checked tomorrowND which is also supposed to be pretty bad.

still a bargain though when you consider what you're getting and how much the dvds were when they came out intially

The bonus disc is a total waste of time. It doesn't really matter, the film discs have everything worth watching on, and are pretty comprehensive.
If Skyfall is a double discer, that's going in the box instead. I think putting the original release (including old trailers and menus) of Quantum Of Solace in was a bit lazy though. I'm beginning to doubt we will ever see a special edition including the original ending.

I never got the Ultimate Editions, only the first Special Editions, so this set is great for me.
