Epic fail indeed - the ability to record *all* live channels is an 'essential' for me - and I am sure most people. BT need to tell us before the launch if using the box they send us we will now, or in the future, be able to record such channels internally on the PVR.
If BT remain silent about it, most will assume that it won't happen - and many will steer clear of BT Youview. Integration should mean exactly that, whatever the channel delivery route. BT need to speak up about it. |

And the fact people are being charged for installation of the YouView box is a joke in itself. Self installation is meant to be a doddle - plug it in and you're away... no need for an enforced charge on this at all. Sorry but it's more of a joke than a real consideration at this moment in time. |

Theres always something better around the corner. Ditherers always end up with nothing. In 12 months time ill be free to choose another product if I want to even if thats a better youview box. |

The other thing that worries me is that this thing is backed by BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, BT, TalkTalk and Arqiva... and it's still a shambles!

If you cant record the Sky Sports channels on the new BT Youview box, than it is a step backwards from BT's current Vision + box, apart from the HD tuner. I will not be going near this until the option to record all channels your paying for is available.
In fact even worse it turns out you cannot get Sky Sports channels at all on the new box at present. No wonder recording them |

12 month contract @ £4/month increasing to £5 on Jan 1st. £49 activation fee £6.95 delivery £58 subscription in year 1 contract ----------------- £114 total cost to try this out for a year. =========== £252 potential saving on basic Sky subscription (which I can now cancel as I can get Sky Sports 1/2 with BT for about the same cost). £138 profit on the deal = bargain for those in my situation. So in spite of my earlier reservations, I will probably get it. |

Ditherers don't always end up with nothing. Ditherers in this case will end up with a decent box as opposed to the Humax one if they bide their time. I've not got anything against YouView - I think it has AMAZING potential but currently... it's a laughing stock. |

Sky Sports 1,2 and ESPN from BT will NOT currently be available on the new you view box. BT have confirmed this today. Can I get Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 from BT on YouView? BT Vision on YouView gives you access to sports On Demand programmes. However, Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 channels from BT are currently only available with our standard BT Vision+ box http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/40469 |

Clearly, if I'd signed up on that basis yesterday, I would have been able to exit my contract on the basis of misleading or incomplete information Last edited by d'@ve : 21-09-2012 at 16:37. Reason: Updated in the light of new information |

What are the benefits of YouView compared to my current BT Vision service?
YouView offers some great new features including: Scrollback TV - find catch-up TV from the programme guide Freeview HD channels - BBC HD, BBC1 HD, ITV1 HD and Channel 4 HD (subject to reception) Even more Catch Up TV from ITV Player, 4OD and Demand 5 (iPlayer programmes are the same) Access to programmes from new providers, such as Now TV However, your current BT Vision service offers: No advertising on Catch Up TV. On YouView, Catch Up TV from ITV Player, 4OD and Demand 5 includes adverts (which you can't skip) The same huge library of BT Vision content (other than Catch Up TV which is only the best of ITV Player, 4OD and Demand 5) Access to Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 and ESPN. BT don't currently offer these channels on YouView The ability to search the TV Guide as well as On Demand programmes. This is not yet available on YouView |

Dave you do realise that if you do what you have said above you will no longer be able to get Sky Sports 1 and 2, or ESPN through BT. The new you view box doesnt support them.

I think you're being over critical. Laughing stock?, shambles? Not for me. If you thjink talktalk is a better deal then your choice is made simpler. |

I'll now be waiting until I can get SS1/2 on their YT box. Presumably they haven't yet finished building the necessary app? |

Unlike Talktalk who have agreed a new deal to supply Sky Sports on Youview with Sky, BT's agreement with Sky for the supply of Sky Sports is believed to finish at the end of the season. If BT do not agree a new deal with Sky than the channels will no longer be available on the service. Sky having won the recent court case are no longer forced to sell the channels to BT at a set price. Therefore expect if the Sky Sport channels are available on Youview through BT a large price increase on what vision customers currently pay. |

Over critical? In your opinion obviously but for me, not slightly. Not considering the money that's been spent on this. They couldn't even get their own boxes from Pace right so had to step back and use Humax. Doesn't exactly fill you with confidence when you add these bits together. You have your opinion, I have mine. |

However, I can only justify the expenditure on a YV box (even as discounted) if I can get rid of Sky altogether and I want Sky Sports, so I'll await developments. If YV and BT don't get a move on though, they will miss the boat as others will as we speak be developing integrated catch-up TV PVR/EPGs... |

Does anybody think it will matter for BT if they don't offer Sky Sports as part of their packages? |

I just hope for BTs sake that theyll have a robust offer when they launch the new sports channel. |

Obviously it's a major dent from a BT marketing perspective because you can get Sky Sports through other providers (even TalkTalk YouView) but in the bigger picture, moving BT aside, will it really matter that much? All YouView customers have access to NOW TV.

Does NOW TV have live streaming or will it be catch-up only? And will previously live Premiership football even be available on catch-up? That obviously matters.

Nobody knows as yet but sports content and entertainment programming will be added soon. All reports I've ever read on the subject refer to live Premier League matches. Pay monthly and possibly even the possibility of a pay-per-match scenario.

Why don't they stop all this messing about with complicated offers.....................................Can you imagine them running a Greengrocers shop...........If you buy a carrot a week for a year you can have it for 1p, if you only buy a carrot when you need it, it will be £1. but if you have shopped here before it will cost £2, unless you are a new customer then it will be free, providing you buy an orange every week for a year...............................
