Dell Inspiron 1545 - Pausing every few secs

Im using a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop running Vista. Recently, I've noticed that when I type, it keeps pausing every couple of seconds, which is very annoying. This happens with every program, even Notepad.

Not only that, but the mouse cursor freezes for about 1-2 seconds as I move it across the screen.

I've ran a scan with Malwarebytes, but it didn't find anything. What could be causing this?

Lack of RAM, too many processes running ?, don't know. Have a look in task manager for cpu usage.

If the mouse pointer stops, it's a hardware or driver problem.

See if it does it in Safe Mode.

I found out that it was Internet Explorer which was causing it. When I closed it down, the typing was no longer slow and the mouse cursor moves properly. I don't know why that is as IE never used to cause this.

I have seen certain ads on web pages do this, usually the animated ones. An ad blocker solves the problem!

No, it bypasses the problem, it doesn't solve it.
